What are the responsibilities and job description for the Trial Attorney (Senior Litigation Counsel) Open Continuous position at Offices, Boards and Divisions?

The United States Department of Justice, Antitrust Division, is seeking experienced first-chair and second-chair trial lawyers to take leadership roles on high-profile antitrust and competition cases involving challenges to anticompetitive mergers and business conduct, including monopolization matters. The attorneys hired can expect to be given significant substantive and leadership responsibility and have immediate involvement with antitrust matters of national importance.

Qualifications:

Successful candidates will have:
  • At least seven years of complex litigation and trial experience (more than 15 years preferred), with a preference for experience in civil litigation;
  • Trial team leadership experience, preferably as first-chair or second-chair;
  • Significant brief-writing and oral-argument experience;
  • Excellent communication skills;
  • The ability to lead and work effectively in teams; and
  • Strong legal writing, editing, and analytical skills.
Previous antitrust experience is valuable but not required.

  1. Be a citizen of the United States;
  2. Possess a J.D. or equivalent degree, be an active member of the bar in good standing (any U.S. jurisdiction), and have at least four years of post J.D. legal experience to qualify at the GS-15 level;
  3. Have experience in the investigation of potential federal civil or criminal antitrust and/or white-collar criminal violations, or general federal litigation experience, including criminal and/or civil cases; and
  4. Demonstrate excellent writing, analytical, and interpersonal skills.

Salary : $152,527 - $183,500
