Controls Engineer

We currently seek an experienced Controls Engineer to join our division located in Somerset, NJ, and help support our continued business growth.
The Controls Engineer position is responsible for the design and implementation of software and hardware for industrial control systems. Applicant must be responsive, flexible and able to succeed within a collaborative environment.
Essential duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Drive process improvements and help develop new capabilities within our existing R&D and manufacturing systems in support of aggressive business growth
- Improve and support existing process systems and infrastructure, including Glass Fabrication, Fiber Draw, Measurements, Spooling, Passive and Integrated Devices, New Product Development (NPD) and other emerging operations
- Design and implement automation controls for mission-critical equipment
- Expand and improve the existing database and networking infrastructure, connecting operations within the facility
- Troubleshoot and repair equipment and system problems while minimizing down-time
- Participate on various teams engaged in optical fiber and fiber-based device research and development, as well as pilot-line manufacturing
- Perform other related duties as required by management
Key qualifications include:
- BS degree in Electrical Engineering, Physical Sciences, or related technology
- 5 years industry experience in process control, instrumentation, programming and data management
- Experience with PLC configurations and programming: C, C , Visual Basic, Python and SQL is required
- Experience with Historian, LabWindows, LabView, MatLab, CAD, HMI is a plus
- Strong documentation processes and practices
- Must be a self-starter able to effectively design experiments, analyze data, and develop and document conclusions
- Drive to learn new technologies and implement state-of-the-art processing
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to collaborate as part of a team
