GENERAL PURPOSE

This position performs skilled work in the construction, maintenance, and related service activities related
to street, sewer/storm water, traffic, and utility maintenance. Receives general supervision from the
supervisor or crew leader.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

• Operate construction and maintenance equipment and power tools such as dump trucks, front-end loader, backhoe, vactor, flush truck, compressors, jack hammers, concrete saws, sewer rodders, mowers, edgers and blowers or any other equipment needed in sewer and storm water maintenance and repairs; maintain hand tools and assigned equipment; perform preventive maintenance on equipment.
• Know and understand underground utility locating procedures and "blue stake" policies and procedures.
• Read and interpret basic maps and blueprints.
• Direct and control traffic around work sites, setting up barricades and cones.
• Utilize proper safety precautions related to all work performed.
• Be available for recall during any hour for sewer and storm sewer emergencies, snow/ice control work, or other emergency conditions.
• Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information within the area of assignment; resolve complaints in an efficient and timely manner.
• Perform snow removal and ice control duties as required.
• Assist in pipe laying and pipeline repairs.
• Assist in tapping main lines.
• Willing to accept duty as the Division's stand-by person for a one-week period and respond to emergency calls 24-hours a day during this period.
• Participate in safety and risk management activities; take action to reduce liability to the city.
• Attendance and punctuality are essential functions of this position. Employee is required to work as a team and frequently meet with co-workers and supervisors; employee is required to communicate in-person with the public during office hours; and employee is required to use on-site equipment.
