**This position is for the 22/23 school year**


Under the the supervision of the Director of Student Achievement, the District Elementary Mathematics Specialist will advance highly-effective instructional practices in all grades K-5 learning environments, provide comprehensive coaching/guidance to all grades K-5 mathematics teachers, support educators as they implement district-adopted resources, and provide ongoing professional development opportunities for administrators and teachers.


Job duties will include:
observing classroom instructional practices, providing targeted post-observation feedback, supporting teachers with lesson planning and evaluation, participating in collaborative team meetings, facilitating school- and district-wide professional development, and collaborating with teachers and administrators to evaluate formative assessment practices.


The District Elementary Mathematics Specialist will also participate in district-level collaborative meetings, facilitate district mathematics content meetings, and contribute to the student achievement department’s online resource repository.


The District Elementary Mathematics Specialist will be expected to use about 10%-20% of contract time to plan for the above mentioned activities, participate in district meetings, and support with project oversight.


The District Elementary Mathematics Specialist interactions will be governed by district’s teacher specialists' expectations as well as the expectations listed below.


CONTRACT

Contract Length: 181.5 days with the option of an additional 10 days


ENTRY LEVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Valid Utah Educator License
  • Three or more years as an effective elementary mathematics teacher or related content area
  • ESL endorsement or commitment to obtain within 3 years of initial employment with the District

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of elementary (K-5) mathematics curriculum, standards of mathematical practice, effective mathematical instructional practices, and associated state assessments
  • Comprehensive knowledge of effective lesson design and classroom assessment practices
  • Comprehensive knowledge of serving special populations of learners
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Effective organizational and project-management skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Strong computer and internet proficiency including a high-degree of aptitude with Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Office, and common educational technology systems.

PRINCIPAL ACTIVITIES


Program Support (40%)

  • Attend to operational details of K-5 mathematics programs; including implementation schedules, location of activities, user/participant management, and supporting documents/resources.
  • Support elementary leaders and teachers in aligning elementary and secondary core standards and practices.
  • Engage in regular planning sessions with the Director of Student Achievement and other district specialists.
  • Develop and implement a communication process to collaborate with district and school personnel to improve understanding of district-adopted curriculum.
  • Develop, implement, and support district mathematics common interim assessments.
  • Understand and respect program budget priorities and constraints.
  • Collect and ensure accuracy of data, information, attendance, and any other formal documentation for the K-5 mathematics program.
  • Support Director of Student Achievement in reviewing/developing metrics to measure the success of the program and maintaining required paperwork for all applicable reports.


Professional Learning Support (50%)

  • Review calendar activities for K-5 mathematics program to ensure that all requirements, goals, and activities are being properly implemented.
  • Plan and facilitate professional development sessions and activities aimed at promoting and supporting effective implementation of district-adopted curriculum and sound instructional practices in all classrooms.
  • Evaluate results of professional learning programs to determine the effectiveness on deepening teacher content knowledge, improving teacher pedagogical skills and/or increasing student learning.
  • Assess the needs of school communities by reaching out to administrators, teachers, and other teacher specialists.
  • Develop and implement a process to communicate program policies and procedures, assessments, and data collection with district and school personnel.
  • Assist the school-level instructional coaches through PD and content knowledge support.


Systems Administration Support (10%)

  • Support mathematics digital platforms/systems; including managing users, uploading data, generating reports, and addressing basic technological issues.
  • Support other data and learning systems as required to support the district K-5 mathematics program.
