Position: Special Education Classroom Monitor

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Training and/or experience in special education preferred.
  • Ability to work effectively with students with special needs and follow confidentiality procedures.
  • Assist students who need additional help learning a specific concept and to keep students on task.
  • Must possess effective human relation skills to facilitate social interactions.

REPORTS TO: Supervising teacher and Principal.

JOB GOALS: To effectively assist the supervising teacher with instruction, physical help and emotional support of children with special needs.

Performance Qualifications

  • Understand and assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans to assist those students with learning experiences.
  • Tutor students individually or in small groups as instructed by the Special Education teacher/Classroom teacher.
  • Complete clerical duties to assist teacher and building principal.
  • Maintain and use appropriately school equipment and materials.
  • Supervise students in the lunchroom, playground, and field trips as assigned.

9. Works cooperatively with others including the teacher, psychologist, and counselor.

  • Complete other duties and responsibilities as assigned by supervisor.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and work year will be established by the Oglala Lakota County School Board.

EVALUATION: Performance of this position will be evaluated by the principal.
