About the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities – Tiffin Developmental Center

The Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities (DODD) is a trauma informed care agency. We offer a state-wide system of supportive services that focus on ensuring health and safety, supporting access to community participation and increasing opportunities for meaningful employment. Tiffin Developmental Center is located in the northwest region of Ohio and is home to both adults and youth with developmental disabilities.

What you will do as the Assistant Program Director

  • Oversee the work of designated Case Managers to ensure Individual Service Plans are compliant with standards established for individuals with developmental disabilities and may serve as the Case Manager for a group of residents.
  • Work with community providers to provide off-site programming and/or employment opportunities for residents
  • Oversee the implementation of meaningful activities for residents.
  • Review trends and patterns of unusual incidents and restrictive measure usage and implements changes based on data analysis.
  • Train staff during orientation, annual training and as needed.
  • Work with interdisciplinary teams to ensure residents receive the best overall care (e.g. medical, dietary and therapies).
  • Supervise staff (e.g. coaching/mentoring, performance evaluations, timekeeping and corrective action).
  • Hours of work will include weekends, early mornings and evenings to be accessible on all shifts.

Qualifications

24 mos. exp. in development & implementation of treatment/habilitation plans for individuals who are mentally ill or developmentally disabled & working as part of inter-disciplinary team to assess individual’s needs & abilities; 12 mos. exp. as lead worker providing work direction & training for other employees; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in state &/or federal regulations & standards governing care, custody & programming of consumers/residents in mental health or developmental centers; 6 mos. exp. in writing or assisting in development of policies, procedures, goals & objectives of operational unit or program of agency or firm; 1 course in manpower planning or 3 mos. exp. scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage or projecting adequate staff levels; 3 mos. trg. in budgeting or 3 mos. exp. preparing or assisting in preparation of budget for operational unit or program of agency or firm.

-Or completion of undergraduate core program in mental health & developmental disabilities technology, social work or comparable field (e.g., child & family community services), special education, psychology or rehabilitation; 12 mos. exp. as lead worker providing work direction & training for other employees; 12 mos. trg. or 12 mos. exp. in state &/or federal regulations & standards governing care, custody & programming of consumers/residents in mental health or developmental centers; 6 mos. exp. in writing &/or assisting in development of policies, procedures, goals & objectives of operational unit or program of agency or firm; 1 course in manpower planning or 3 mos. exp. scheduling staff to ensure adequate coverage or projecting adequate staff levels; 3 mos. trg. in budgeting or 3 mos. exp. preparing or assisting in preparation of budget for operational unit or program of agency or firm.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts & draw valid conclusions; prepare &/or edit unit or program policies, goals & objectives; gather collate & classify information about data, people or things; cooperate with co-workers on group projects; handle sensitive contacts with community groups, public & representatives of governmental agencies; prepare &/or review & edit individual consumer/resident habilitation plans &/or prepare meaningful, concise & accurate reports.

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to submit to urinalysis prior to the appointment to test for illegal drug use. An applicant with a positive test result will not be offered employment and will be barred from employment with the State of Ohio for one year.

Background Check Information

The final candidate selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. Rule 5123-2-02 “Background Investigations for Employment,” outlines disqualifying offenses that will preclude an applicant from being hired by the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities.

Since this position is unclassified (serves at the discretion of the Appointing Authority), a more detailed background check in addition to the criminal background check is required.
