The Ohio Environmental Council and its family of organizations (“OEC Collective”) seek to hire a full-time Campaign Communications Manager to support the growth of the advocacy, political, and communications programs. This position is shared with the OEC’s affiliated 501(C)(4) organization, the OEC Action Fund. The Manager will develop print and digital content to support critical advocacy efforts across the family of organizations. The Manager will be responsible for the development and execution of statewide advocacy, rapid response, and legislative advocacy communications. The Manager will engage directly with stakeholders, partners, and elected officials to promote initiatives in line with the OEC and OEC Action Fund’s policy advocacy campaigns – including statewide efforts around the Inflation Reduction Act, Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, and other federal legislation. The Manager will work across OEC’s teams to ensure cohesive and strategic campaign communications.This role is a unique opportunity at the nexus of policy advocacy and communications development. It will play a critical role in connecting the OEC family of organizations’ advocacy strategies, campaign communications, and rapid response capabilities through meaningful management and execution of strategic plans.

Job Responsibilities & Performance Expectations

Reporting to the VP of Public Affairs, the Manager’s primary roles will be planning and execution of various public advocacy campaigns, rapid response communications, and content generation in furtherance of key advocacy projects for the OEC Collective.The Manager will also be responsible for the following:

  • Create and execute public advocacy campaigns on key pieces of state and federal legislation in Ohio, especially on the benefits of the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), and Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA):
    • Manage outreach and engagement with elected officials, media, and partners around the IRA, IIJA, and other federal legislation;
    • Support an earned media campaign to promote the implementation of federal investments and other key advocacy initiatives;
  • Create content/ resources for consumers and partners regarding policy impacts of state and federal legislation
  • Create written and visual content for print and digital platforms (website, action alerts, email marketing) for advocacy and political campaigns;
  • Support advocacy-related rapid response strategy and develop communications;
  • Support social media accounts for the OEC Collective;
  • Work with Regional Directors to promote and coordinate regional issue advocacy campaigns;
  • Analyze key performance indicators of digital tactics and regularly report results to relevant staff;
  • Research and test best digital platforms to maximize membership engagement;
  • Conduct work through the lens of justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion to ensure all Ohioans have equal access to the environmental movement

Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • At least 3-5 years of relevant experience (includes education, training, jobs, and other transferable skills)
  • Experience executing modern campaign practices and working well with diverse coalitions and public figures
  • Handle detailed, complex concepts and problems and make rapid decisions regarding political issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Graphic design skills, including experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva
  • Previous digital communications experience including website development and social media management
  • Previous print experience including mailing
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively while meeting deadlines and juggling multiple priorities in a results-oriented environment

Desired Skills:

  • Political or advocacy campaign experience
  • Experience with earned media campaigns
  • Experience with paid media campaigns

Compensation and benefits

This position is full-time, exempt, pays between $52,000-$58,000 and is within the bargaining unit represented by the OEC Workers United. Excellent benefits include employer-paid health, vision, dental, and life insurance; flexible and dependent care spending account; generous paid time off; paid parental leave; and employer-matched retirement fund.

Additional details

Candidates based out of Cleveland or Columbus are preferred, but all Ohio-based applicants will be considered. Candidates must be able to work occasional evenings and weekends, and be willing to occasionally travel throughout Ohio.
