Ohio Gastroenterology Group is the leading provider of general advanced GI procedures with several state-of-the-art facilities throughout Central Ohio. We employ a talented team of specialists who perform more GI procedures each year than any other practice in our area.

We currently have a full-time opening for a Human Resources Generalist.

Primary Job Functions:

  • Administer the company's benefit plans including the health plan, life insurance, long term disability and other benefits programs as defined.
  • Prepare and manage COBRA documents and payments.
  • Stay up to date with Healthcare Reform regulations; compile data to file ACA reports; maintain the grand-fathered status of the health plan.
  • Participate in the annual benefit renewal in conjunction with the insurance broker, HR Manager, and HR Director.
  • Distribute mandatory plan documents and notices in accordance with the DOL and IRS (Summary Plan Description, Summary of Material Modifications, HIPAA Privacy and other Annual Participant Notices, etc.).
  • Answer employee questions about coverage; act as a liaison between the employees, third party administrators, and benefit vendors.
  • Enter all enrollment changes on vendor websites; adjust payroll premiums accordingly.
  • Reconcile monthly employee paid benefit billings to payroll records; calculate and submit payment for sponsored benefits; identify and resolve billing and/or payroll discrepancies that arise.
  • Enter accurate data into the employee's master electronic file in the HR/Payroll software for all new employees, changes, and terminations.
  • Conducts or acquires background checks and employee eligibility verifications.
  • Prepare and process payroll changes in accordance with applicable policies and statutes.
  • Responsible for ongoing administration and training for all users of the online electronic timesheet system including adding/terminating employees into the system and updating annual hours/schedules.
  • Receive, process and track wage garnishments.
  • Ensure compliance with FLSA Wage and Hour rules.
  • Coordinate the off-boarding process including the calculation of final payouts, facilitating exit interviews, notifying IT of building and electronic access changes, etc.
  • Recruits, interviews, and facilitates the hiring of qualified job applicants for open positions; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings.
  • Approve requests for FMLA (in conjunction with HR Manager) and prepare written responses; maintain the FMLA file in accordance with Federal and State laws.
  • Obtain medical certifications and re-certifications in a timely manner.
  • Track FMLA time used on a rolling calendar year and coordinate the use of leave time with the payroll process.
  • Communicate work restrictions with supervisors; identify light duty assignments whenever possible.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Secondary Job Functions:

  • Prepare employee service anniversary certificates and awards.
  • Oversee the maintenance of personnel files and ensures that information is retained according to the record retention policy.
  • Compile data and reports for the annual state audit.
  • Assist with workers compensation claims, incident reviews and other safety related duties as needed.
  • Maintains patients’ rights of privacy and confidentiality.
  • Any other tasks as requested by the physician, corporate administrator, personnel manager, and/or the office supervisor

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Considerable knowledge of modern human resources practices/procedures.
  • Excellent knowledge of office equipment, administrative and clerical procedures, and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher.
  • Considerable knowledge of current employment laws.
  • Basic knowledge of the laws, policies and procedures governing health and life insurance administration.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision and instruction at times.
  • Ability to create, maintain and analyze complex computer spreadsheets utilizing mathematical formulas.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish/maintain professional working relationships with other county employees, public officials, department heads, vendors, and the public.
  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • Exercise sound decision making skills and resourcefulness in the performance of job duties.
  • Ability to resolve conflict through persuasion, mediation, and negotiation.
  • Handle confidential information with tact and discretion.
  • Follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to handle and resolve recurring problems.
  • Knowledge of all pertinent federal and state regulations, filing and compliance requirements, both adopted and pending, affecting employee benefits programs, including the ACA, ERISA, COBRA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, workers' compensation, Medicare, OBRA, and Social Security and DOL requirements.

Credentials and Experience

  • Must have at least 2 years experience working with Payroll and Benefits in a company of 300 FTEs.
  • Must have at least 1 year of experience as an HR generalist.
  • PHR and/or CBP certification a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field from an accredited four-year university.
