What are the responsibilities and job description for the Infusion RN position at Ohio Gastroenterology Group, Inc.?

Ohio Gastroenterology Group is the leading provider of general advanced GI procedures with several state-of-the-art facilities throughout Central Ohio. We employ a talented team of specialists who perform more GI procedures each year than any other practice in our area.
We currently have a full-time opening for an Infusion RN.
Scope of responsibility and accountability:
- Responsible for care and maintenance of equipment in the Infusion Lab
- Follow infection control standards at all time.
- Supports the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Infusion Lab.
- Practices cost containment and proper, safe equipment operation.
Major activities and essential job functions:
- Maintains safe injection practices for patients in the infusion suite.
- Practices safe medication handling with infusion meds.
- Assess and provides care to patients receiving infusion.
- Monitor’s patient vitals.
- Communicate with physician on call with patient reactions or emergencies.
- Appropriately notifies physician for patient orders.
- Chart’s infusion course with accuracy and in a timely manner.
- Prepares and cleans lab daily, maintains appropriate equipment, instruments, and supplies.
- Properly cleans and disinfects/sterilizes accessories as appropriate.
- Enter and verify patient demographics and insurance information as needed.
- Obtain proper signed authorizations from patient regarding care.
- Ensure all required testing and physician orders are in place prior to scheduling or infusing.
- Schedule patient for additional treatment and any follow up office visit as needed.
- Answering phone and triaging calls in a professional and friendly manner
- Functions as a liaison between patients/families, nursing staff, physicians, other physician offices/physician liaison.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels and assists with ordering, restocks supplies.
- Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned
Position Qualifications:
- Must be 18 years old or older.
- High School graduate or equivalent G.E.D.
- Graduate from an approved Nursing school and maintains RN license with the Ohio Board of Nursing.
- Responsible for maintaining a current BLS Certification.
- Good foundation of clinical and clerical knowledge and skills
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Effective verbal and written communication skills, speaks fluent English.
- Ability to communicate with diversified levels of patients, staff members, and management.
- Knowledge of modern office procedures and methods including telephone communication, office systems, and record keeping.
- Ability to establish priorities, work independently, proceed with objectives, and take direction.
- Ability to organize work material and/or charts to ensure accuracy of patient records.
- Ability to handle and resolve problems in the Nurse Managers absence.
- Neat appearance and a professional demeanor
- Must be flexible with working schedule and have ability to work occasional overtime.
- Willingness to learn new tasks, be cross trained to be flexible with workload, including assisting co-workers.
Regulatory requirements/risks/exposures:
Works with chemicals, IV medications, and needles
Physical demand requirement meets those define as HEAVY work. Occasionally lift, carry, and push objects up to 75 pounds, assist transferring patients, sitting (frequently), standing (frequently), walking (frequently)
On-going job expectations & competency
- In addition to the above, on-going job expectations of the Infusion Nurse are as follows:
- Orient to new procedures and equipment
- Maintain BCLS certification * Maintain OBN license
- Maintain annual fire safety/general safety training
- Maintain annual OSHA training (Bloodborne Pathogen)
- Maintain annual PPD skin test or TB Screening Form
- Must complete annual performance evaluation, including competency skills checklist
- Attends and participated in staff meeting (as needed)
