Bachoco OK Foods is seeking an Environmental Manager for our Corporate offices located in Fort Smith, AR
Summary Responsible for all environmental matters facing the company, which requires evaluating and recommending actions to achieve full compliance in all environmental areas.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Arrange for and ensure the precise collection and calculation of all environmental data across operations and create, finalize and submit regulatory reports that include TIER II, Toxic Release Inventory, Discharge Monitoring, etc.
- Monitor process owners to assure the compliance procedures associated with afore mentioned reports are being implemented and maintained. Example data: chemicals, exhaust systems, emissions, waste characteristics, etc.
- Identify hazards and analyze the risks associated with hazards across all site operations. Participate in the creation of training materials, procedures and audit programs to help the site manage and lower its hazards/risks.
- Conducts semi-annual assessments across all locations along with providing a summary report to the Director of EHS.
- Assist in the review and interpretation of regulations impacting the site and propose options that will assist with the creation and implementation of compliant processes and procedures.
- Provide the employees/supervisors guidance that will develop compliant solutions, new techniques and opportunities for process improvements.
- Create, maintain and deliver the regulatory training programs to assure employees, contractors and visitors are trained in required practices.
- Participate in external government agency audits and follow up on concerns identified during audits.
- Support emergency response activities and be capable to lead the site as a proper, responsible response team member. Expected to be available for emergencies 24/7.
- Thorough knowledge of regulatory requirements including AR, OK, AL and GA waste regulations, permitting, NPDES, SID, SPCC, SWPPP, Hazardous & Solid Waste, Air, EPCRA – Tier II and TRI.
- Ability to work independently when needed with little supervision.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Maintains dotted-line reporting relationship with EHS Specialists at each Facility. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the environmental responsibilities of those Team Members. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree, in a technical discipline, such as engineering, environmental, safety, etc. 5 years of related experience, in environmental compliance preferred. In depth experience with environmental compliance regulations. Lean education and implementation experience. Familiarity with environmental rules and permitting requirements including that of air, waste water, and TRI. Familiarity with the waste regulations in states of operation.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the most complex documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints. Ability to write speeches and articles using original or innovative techniques or style. Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts such as exponents, logarithms, quadratic equations, and permutations. Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory, and factor analysis. Strong analytical ability, being able to look at data/trends and create and implement appropriate process improvements.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, musical notes, etc.,) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Environmental Management systems, Excel and other Microsoft programs. Along with familiarity of regulatory based systems for reporting requirements.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Registered Environmental Manager license issued by National Registry of Environmental Professionals or other professional certifications preferred. Other designations and/or organizations would be considered.
