Systems & Applications Specialist (Dept of Corrections - Software Concentration)

Provides specialized technical support for designated department(s), systems, projects and users, performing all work in a manner that safeguards the integrity of all system data.• Procures, installs, configures, maintains, updates, repairs and replaces hardware, software, peripherals, related infrastructure and equipment in accordance with standards set forth by the Information Technology Department (IT). • Coordinates with IT Security Team to identify, mitigate, and prevent security issues, striving to ensure the integrity of the system and networks by implementing best practices, following applicable government regulations, county policies; and monitoring user access and permission levels. • Acts as project manager and liaison between IT and assigned customer(s) for department specific technology related projects, including, but not limited to new software installations, upgrades, service packs, patches and other development updates as well as assisting with the forecasting of future IT related budget items and new project requests. • Identifies errors, malfunctions, and deficiencies in hardware, software, systems, etc.; troubleshoots issues through resolution, timely and accurately documenting all issues using the Help Desk application. • Establishes/troubleshoots client LAN connectivity to network switches/routers for various hardware devices to include activating connections at patch panel, troubleshooting connectivity issues, and reporting suspected network and/or switch failures to IT Networks Team. • Provides technical support and training to users, including new hires, as needed to help customers operate hardware, software and assigned system applications effectively; ensures all time spent on training and technical support is accurately and timely documented in the Help Desk application. • Oversees and coordinates with IT Security Team and contracted vendors to maintain all aspects of security access controls, video security, HVAC automation, and other specialized automated functions/systems to include but not limited to setting up new cameras and systems, managing users and access groups , and maintaining backup processes in accordance with IT and assigned departmental policies, practices, and standards. • Performs document management on data shares; maintains database/spreadsheet records, and coordinates file permissions with IT Server Team to include ensuring system documentation, data flow diagrams, troubleshooting tips, spreadsheets and documents are documents and stored on file share. • Tracks system details and performs inventory tasks for IT related equipment, including making recommendations for replacements and additional workstations as needed, consolidation when warranted and other action based on IT direction and polices. • Researches and maintains current knowledge of new techniques and technical developments in the information technology and assigned specialized fields. • Performs other duties as assigned.Education, Training and Experience: Associate's degree or vocational/technical degree with course work emphasis in Computer Science or Information Technology supplemented by two (2) years' progressively responsible experience in computer support functions, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Knowledge of Windows operating system is required. Basic knowledge of Active Directory and databases is preferred. Comptia Network , Comptia Security , and/or Microsoft Certification(s) preferred. Licenses and/or Certifications: Requires a valid driver license.Physical Requirements: Requires the ability to operate a variety of machines and office equipment to include copy/fax machine, computers, and printers. Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, or 50 pounds of force frequently, or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly, to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramps and the like, to maintain County networking systems. Requires the ability to position self to maintain networking systems in confined spaces, under desk, or overhead for long periods of time. Exhibits the ability to traverse uneven or irregular terrain while maintaining control of heavy/bulky objects, and be able to tolerate stationary positions often. Must be able to demonstrate the use of precise dexterity to accomplish everyday tasks. Physical demands exceed those of sedentary work. Language Ability: Requires ability to read a variety of technical data, policy and procedure manuals, codes, etc. ranging from moderately complex to highly technical terminology. Requires the ability to prepare forms and reports using prescribed formats and adhering to all rules of grammar, spelling, diction and punctuation. Requires the ability to use and interpret modern programming languages. Requires the ability to communicate effectively in Standard English. Requires the ability to communicate with a broad array of individuals from various professional backgrounds. Intelligence: Requires the ability to apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions; to interpret a variety of technical instructions in written, mathematical or diagrammatic form; to make independent judgments in absence of supervision; to acquire knowledge of topics related to primary occupation. Numerical Aptitude: Requires the ability to add and subtract totals, multiply and divide, use decimals and determine percentages, to calculate decimals and percentages. Interpersonal Temperament: Requires the ability to deal with people beyond receiving instructions. Must be able to perform under stress when confronted with frequent deadlines and public contact.
