Route Supervisor
Position Summary:
This position is an essential component of the department management team to facilitate bus driver supervision, assignments and dispatch. This is supervisory position manages bus drivers and route services.
Essential Duties:
Assigns drivers to routes, monitor radio communications and activity, records issues, monitors for timely dispatch, and sponsor change for routes.
Dispatches buses daily.
Assists with proper route pairings, review of routing documents and any related materials i.e. Maps, GIS, GIS data, to ensure efficient operation and use of fleet.
Ensures proper route pairings to ensure efficiency, maintains route files, monitors compliance with State certifications to include drivers’ license checks and other required documents for all route drivers.
Trains route drivers on maintaining proper documentation as required by the State; use of correct form/s and retention of records, and provides driver orientation for new employees.
Assists with taking load counts, evacuation drills, and other special situations requiring route drivers’ attention.
Audits routes to ensure compliance with federal, state and local board policies, department guidelines and generally accepted safety practices.
Provides bus route drivers with route directions and any special instructions within their routes.
Handles response for inclement weather operations, stop checks, on call duties and accident investigations.
Provides employee evaluations, approves employee time, documents driving habits, recommends any corrective actions and administers discipline in coordination with the Director.
Communicates with the driver's key service points, safety, and equipment issues
Establishes and maintains a clean, safe work environment and ensure compliance with company policies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Specifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.
Must possess a Commercial Driver License (CDL) of the appropriate class for the vehicle driven with a school bus (S) and a passenger (P) endorsement.
Must possess a School Bus Driving Certificate issued by the State Department of Education (SDE).
Current Motor Vehicle Report must meet established safe driving criteria.
Requires knowledge of Oklahoma City streets, general layout of school district and school locations and the ability to read maps and written instructions.
CPR and First Aid Certification.
Knowledge of District operating policies and procedures.
Five (5) years’ experience as a school bus driver or other supervisory role.
Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, and other related federal, state & local transportation regulations.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to work flexible schedules including weekends/holidays and be available to address operational issues by phone at all times.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
Must have adequate manual dexterity to write legibly and perform required duties on the computer
Must have adequate visual acuity to read, interpret and transcribe written material and other required duties
Requires normal range of hearing and clear speaking abilities to interact appropriately with others in person and on the telephone
Requires some stooping, bending, stretching and occasional lifting not to exceed 25 pounds
Sitting for prolonged periods of time
May periodically require work outside of normal business hours, including weekends, under sometimes stressful conditions in order to meet business needs and strict deadlines
Work Environment:
Office duties will be performed in a well-lighted, climate controlled environment
