Position Summary:
The Acquisitions Specialist is responsible for monographic acquisitions and copy-cataloging in the online library system (WMS).
Additionally, the Acquisitions Specialist assists in the operations of the library circulation desk.
The Acquisitions Specialist reports to the Monographs Librarian and coordinates leave requests with the Access Services Librarian.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrate an attitude and behavior that reflects the values and mission of the department and University.
Acquisitions (75% of role):
Performs monographic acquisitions, including choosing vendors, tracking the budget, and creating and maintaining acquisitions records in WMS.
Purchases, receives, and invoices new library materials.
Submits regular reports of expenditures to the university accounting system (Chrome River).
Copy-catalogs new and donated monographic titles using WMS.
Prepares material for shelves, including call number labels, stamps, security strips, proper identification stickers, etc. Assists in the training of students in processing.
Circulation Services (25% of role):
Shift Supervisor of Circulation Services: Provides excellent customer service while providing oversight for the circulation desk ensuring student workers follow policy and procedures while completing their daily checklists. Charged with various circulation tasks included in the procedures manuals such as checking items in and out, reserving study rooms, and answering basic questions.
Serves as morning staff supervisor: opens the library and ensures that the facility and staff are ready to serve patrons. May serve as weekend/evening shift supervisor: closes the library at the end of the evening shift ensuring that the facility is vacated and the contents are safely secured.
Assists with library shelf maintenance, as needed, re-shelving and shelf reading the collection, and picking up in-house circulation.
