Position Summary
The Quality and Food Safety Auditor is responsible for organizing and maintaining audit documentation of Olde Thompson food safety systems, including monthly facility self-inspections, Safe Quality Food (SQF) system evaluations, Corrective and Preventive Action tracking and follow-up, and sample documentation. The Auditor will also support Senior Management by organizing and completing internal audit team training, Alchemy training set-up, and key performance indicator (KPI) reports for monthly audit and training improvement indicators. The Quality and Food Safety Auditor will provide updates to the Technical Manager, Internal Audit Team, and Senior Management.
The ideal candidate will require excellent leadership and organizational skills. They must have great attention to detail and the ability to communicate effectively within cross-functional teams and management.
Position Responsibilities
- Utilize current SQF criteria to establish a detailed systematic approach to effectively evaluate each section of the code. Communicate the plan to management and internal audit team members.
- Oversee monthly facility audits, ensuring each facility is properly evaluated to SQF, regulatory and Olde Thompson criteria. Maintain a schedule of audits, and follow-up with team members and managers if/when sites are not evaluated in a timely manner.
- Advise team members with proper recording of findings, upload photos, communicate responsibility for corrective actions, and prepare trend reports for each audit site.
- Analyze self-inspection data to verify continuous improvement and identify opportunities within the Olde Thompson facilities, make recommendation as necessary.
- Actively pursue continuous improvement of internal audit team members.
- Organize and lead in-house and third-party training in the areas of Food Safety, Internal Auditing, Root Cause Analysis, and Preventative Controls Qualified Individual (PCQI).
- Register supplier and plant corrective action forms in the Corrective Action and Preventive Maintenance Log, and follow-up with appropriate managers to ensure corrective actions are addressed and closed in a timely manner. File electronic supporting documents within the appropriate event file and notify the QC Supervisor if/when records are missing and communicate with person(s) responsible to ensure appropriate action is taken.
- Monitor updates to SQF criteria and make appropriate updates to SQF Internal Audit documents. Issue internal audit assignments to appropriate, qualified individuals throughout the year (typically monthly audits) and maintain audit records. Follow-up with appropriate managers to complete corrective actions noted during the annual internal audit.
- Participate on the food safety team and assist the Technical Manager with updates to the plan.
- Review complaint data from Customer Service, Technical Services and Quality Control to establish and present trend reports during KPI meetings.
- Manage and update customer portal as needed.
- Assist with label review and verification as needed.
- Advise supervisors within the quality and technical teams of upcoming Alchemy training requirements and provide training reports.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Food Science, Chemistry, Biology or related field is required.
- Five (5) years of experience involved in food safety or internal auditing is required.
- Bilingual preferred but not required
- Excellent leadership skills with ability to work independently required. This person must be able to take charge and lead teams.
- Familiarity with SQF Code requirements or similar Global Food Safety Initiatives (GFSI) scheme is required.
- Knowledgeable of Microsoft based computer software, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Ability to generate graphs and perform statistical analysis using Microsoft software is required.
- Knowledge of food safety fundamentals; Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA).
- PCQI certification is preferred.
- Working knowledge of Environmental, Safety, and Health Analysis (ESHA) Genesis Software is helpful but not required
- Good communication skills and ability to work well with other departments, vendors, and customers.
- Able to handle several tasks and assignments simultaneously.
- Organized and able to manage time efficiently.
- Detail oriented with ability to communicate to all levels of management.
