What are the responsibilities and job description for the Unit Assistant position at Olathe Health?
Job Summary:
Under the direction of the Nurse, the Unit Secretary completes clerical and receptionist duties such as answering the phone, transcribing and entering orders into computers, and organizing the nursing unit in an efficient, safe, and neat manner. Other duties may include ordering and maintaining supplies for the unit. The Unit Secretary must have excellent communication skills. It is imperative that they are able to communicate effectively using tact and sensitivity. He/she must be self-motivated and able to work and make decisions with limited direct supervision keeping appropriate others informed. The Unit Secretary practices within the organizational/departmental policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED
• Ability to Multi Task and Prioritize, Customer Relations, Medical Terminology, Organizational, Computer Systems, Microsoft Office - Outlook & Verbal Communication

• Consistently demonstrates cost savings activities: Minimize supply waste. Demonstrates ability to prioritize and manage time efficiently. Offers suggestions for cost savings
• Demonstrates knowledge of departmental information by: regularly attending staff meetings, reading email information, attending departmental in-service offerings, reading communication books, reviewing available literature and resource material.
• Approaches work in a manner that makes quality improvement a part of every activity.
• Performs job duties in a manner to consistently improve the patient experience and minimize delays. Supportive of others involved in patient's care. Assists the patient and family with coordinating care to meet individual needs. Facilitates patient flow thru the department processes. Demonstrates organizational skills and plans ahead.
• Able to respond to emergent situations in an effective manner and willing to cross-train to other areas / departments.
• Demonstrates appropriate and effective conflict resolution skills. Step 1: Addresses issues with individuals involved in a courteous and professional manner. Step 2: Escalates issues to appropriate Manager/Director, as necessary.
