DEPARTMENT/LOCATION: Technology Division/Technology Support Center

STATUS: Classified - Exempt, Full Time

POSITION SUMMARY: The Wireless Network Analyst is responsible for troubleshooting, diagnosing and resolving network and hardware issues including systems software, applications software, hardware and Wi-Fi configurations in our district. This position works closely with the users of our network and the network team in order to identify potential issues and fix existing problems. The Wireless Network Analyst will need to have a solid understanding of network hardware and configurations and Wireless Network systems. Knowledge of RF, 802.11 standards, and 802.11 protocols is highly desired.

This job reports to the Assistant Director of Network Infrastructure.

PRIMARY DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

· Installing and configuring wireless access points based on established designs and guidelines

· Troubleshooting escalated Wi-Fi issues both remotely and in person on a variety of end user devices as well as Wi-Fi infrastructure

· Work with other members of the Infrastructure Services Team in implementation of business strategies and directives

· Work with other members of the Wireless Network Team to maintain consistency and support across the Wi-Fi infrastructure

· Collaborate with all Field and Building Technicians to proactively support the districts Wi-Fi needs

· Maintaining up to date knowledge of Wi-Fi industry and standards and attend trainings when available

· Provide daily and weekly updates to the Sr. Wireless Engineer on escalated issues and resolutions

· Work cross-functionally with the Cisco Network Analyst to ensure coverage and service levels are met

· Work closely with users to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve wireless network system problems

· Replacing faulty wireless network hardware components when required

· Perform other duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring efficient and effective functioning of district network infrastructure services.

Education and Experience Requirements:

· 1 to 3 years’ information technology experience

· CWNP or Cisco certifications preferred

· Skills in problem-solving, attention to detail, prompt documentation, time management

· Excellent oral and written communication

· Experience working in a fast-paced and deadline-driven environment while effectively managing multiple assignments with accuracy and consistency

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

· Basic RF (Radio Frequency) Hardware and Functions

· Basic RF (Radio Frequency) Mathematics

· Ability to Identify 801.11 Features and Functions

· Ability to Troubleshoot Wireless LAN Hardware

· Ability to work independently and with a team

· 802.3 Networking Skills – Cat5/Cat6 testing and repair and Cisco route/switch experience

· Ability to think through problems and visualize solutions

· Ability to problem solve information technology networks, systems, and applications as it applies to projects

· Ability to work with systems, network, and other groups in Technology Support Services to effectively communicate changes and technical problems to get them resolved in a timely manner.

· Ability to exercise sound judgement in making critical decisions

· Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships

· Ability to organize and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously

· Ability to travel to district locations as needed using own transportation

· Proven analytical and problem-solving skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

This position requires the performance of Medium work. The position involves Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. The position is in a normal office setting with exposure to computers, with interruptions and irregularities in the work schedule. The work is sedentary, although a frequent amount of reaching, walking, and standing is necessary, an occasional amount of lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling, and some stooping, kneeling and/or crouching as well as a significant amount of fine finger dexterity is required in carrying out the essential duties of this position. The position is performed in generally hazard free environment and a clean atmosphere.
