Overview

The Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist will assist clients in learning the skills necessary to interact successfully with adults and peers across all settings. The Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist will provide opportunities for clients to practice pro-social behavior, problem solving, and coping skills, which will prepare the clients to transition to a less restrictive family setting with minimal reliance on formal supports.

Responsibilities

  • Develop one-on-one relationships with clients by providing support, guidance and concrete assistance that focuses on the needs of the client, while maintaining appropriate boundaries.
  • Function as a positive role model and advocate for the client in his/her family system and community.
  • Identify, access and use resources and relationships to build an on-going support network for the client.
  • Provide services in the STRTP facility, in the school, and other community locations.
  • Provide one-on-one interactions with the client within the community, orienting client toward socially acceptable activities, practicing appropriate behavior rather than talking about behavior, identifying and reinforcing behaviors, including being physical/ playing sports, activities and skills in areas where client has confidence, and creating fun and reinforcing environments to teach to skill deficits.
  • Assist client to become involved in academic, social, recreational and/or employment activities, and coach client to successfully complete said activities.
  • Identify natural supports that link the client to the community in order to support transition and will sustain the client’s connection to community after transition.
  • Adhere to all program requirements and timelines, including scheduling of sessions, documentation, team consultations, staff meetings, trainings, and supervision.
  • Maintain open communication with Management, Care Coordinator, Mental Health Clinician, and other Family Team members. Provide written plans to caregivers and team members as needed.
  • Attend Child and Family Team meetings when directed to do so, with the purpose of supporting the client to participate and assisting the team to develop appropriate interventions.
  • Accurately document all services provided and all contacts regarding client as directed.
  • Adhere to the County Code of Conduct and the Agency’s mission and philosophy.

Qualifications

  • Possess a Bachelor’s Degree in human services or a related field and experience working with clients in an employment or volunteer capacity as required by STRTP.
  • Record clearance free of criminal convictions.
  • Working knowledge of computer programs including Outlook and Word. Trainable in use of Electronic Health Record.
  • Able to apply reason in problem-solving situations where only limited standardization may exist.
  • Possess good social skills, demonstrate a high level of professionalism, common sense, and be able to exercise good judgment.
  • Must have a philosophy of support for at-risk children and families in line with the mission, vision, values, and statement of faith of Olive Crest.
  • Must maintain eligibility to work under federal and/or state mental health funded programs.
  • Must maintain valid California Driver’s License and clean driving record in accordance with Olive Crest’s auto insurance policy.
  • Obtain certification in PRO ACT within 90 days of hire.
  • Maintain CPR, First Aid, and PRO ACT certification, without lapse while employed.
  • Must be able to walk up and down stairs.
  • Must be able lift/move up to 20 pounds.
  • Must be able to bend, kneel, stoop and reach.

Pay: From $26.00 per hour
