Position Summary
Our Busser/Server Assistant is responsible for assisting servers and bartenders. The Busser/Server Assistant is not the very front line of service, but their strong attention to detail and attentiveness is what is needed to thrill our guests.
Essential Functions
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Quickly clears dirty table settings and prepares table for resetting; promptly and consistently resets all service ware as prescribed.
- Maintains stock and cleanliness of stations for all meal periods with necessary equipment, including silverware, linen and condiments; wipes down booths and chairs, moves tables and chairs, and cleans floors as necessary.
- Serves guests beverages, breads and butter and replenishes as necessary; assists servers with food and beverage service.
- Transports all dirty tableware from dining room to dishwashing area.
- Performs any general cleaning tasks using standard cleaning products as assigned by supervisor.
- Folds napkins throughout the day to maintain an adequate supply.
- Performs all assigned side work, including replenishing condiments and restocking side stands.
- Perform other duties as assigned, such as cleaning unexpected spills, handling special guest requests, and greeting and seating guests.
- While interacting with guests inform them of enhancements to their dining experience.
- Cutting fruit and maintaining fresh stock of garnishes according to bar specifications; replenishing throughout the shift.
- Clearing used dishes and glassware, properly stacking and organizing in dish area.
- Restocking and replenishing glassware, flatware and side plates.
- Restocking beer, wine, liquor and any other products needed for bar operations.
- Changing kegs.
- Assisting Bartender(s) with any operational tasks, as needed.
- Practice safe work habits, wear protective safety equipment and follow MSDS and OSHA standards.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
Supportive Functions
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination supportive function, with the percentage of time performing each function to be determined by the Executive Chef and Food & Drink Leadership based upon the requirements of the Hotel.
Other
Regular attendance in conformance with the standards, which may be established by the hotel from time to time, is essential to the successful performance of this position. Team Members with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, Team Members may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel.
Upon employment, all Team Members are required to fully comply with the hotel rules and regulations for the safe and efficient operation of hotel facilities set forth by the Canopy Boston Downtown, Olshan Properties and Hilton hotels. Team Members who violate hotel rules and regulations will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Specific Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodations, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
- Performs other duties as assigned, requested, or deemed necessary by management.
- Full-time able to work weekday and weekend shifts.
- Working safely and withing Canopy by Hilton Boston Downtown strict guidelines related to COVID-19 prevention.
- Server team members are required to serve food while mindful of food allergies.
- Ability to work flexible schedule to include weekends and holidays
- Ability to concentrate in high-volume high-pressure area.
- Ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods of time.
- Ability to perform tasks requiring bending, stooping, kneeling and can lift 50 lbs.
- Ability to read, write, and comprehend English.
- First Aid and CPR certified.
- ServSafe and TiPS certified.
Qualifications
Education:
- High school degree or equivalent preferred.
- Prior food service/hospitality experience required
Experience:
- Prior related work experience (hotel experience preferred)
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food productions techniques and standards.
- Hilton experience preferred.
Licenses or Certificates:
- TiPS and ServSafe certification (within 30 days if certification is expired)
- First Aid and CPR certified.
Grooming:
- All Team Members must maintain a neat, clean, and well-groomed appearance according to the Olshan Properties Team Member Handbook.
Other:
- Additional language ability preferred.
- Ability to effectively deal with internal and external customers, some of whom will require high levels of patience, tact, and diplomacy to defuse anger and collect accurate information and resolve conflicts.
