Program Specialist 2 - Student Disability Services

Salary : $42,444 - $56,676

Classification : Program Specialist 2

Reports to : Director of Student Disability Services

Olympic College is seeking to hire a full-time classified Program Specialist 2 within our Student Disability Services Department.

This position focuses on intake and subsequently increasing access and efficacy of students with disabilities on the Bremerton campus.

This position assists with case management of students and ensures the Accessible Information Management System (AIMS) system is kept up to date.

This position is critical for supporting students with disabilities and creates an equitable academic environment.

Essential Functions

Provides information and assistance to program participants, staff, and outside entities regarding student disability services (SDS) program content, program policies, and state and federal policies and activities.

Recommend alternative courses of action.

  • Provide problem-solving, advocacy, and mediation for students with disabilities on lower-level concerns / issues.
  • In collaboration with SDS staff consult the Director on higher-level concerns / issues
  • Initiate corrective action as needed with director approval.
  • Explain documentation and guidelines.
  • Edit and communicate changes to the Student Disability Services department website.
  • Assist students with their loaned assistive technology and equipment.
  • Process records requests
  • Coordinate enrollment, referrals, and engagement of eligible SDS students to campus resources and workforce equity programs.
  • Confers with student disability services staff and outside entities regarding the interpretation and implementation of program policies;

participates in establishing program standards and identifying areas for program development.

  • Develop and maintain positive working relationship with outside disability community / services agencies.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed student records and accommodation / service program records.
  • Gather statistical data reports from electronic system.
  • Assist in developing and implementing assessment tools for the office to acquire feedback on the quality and effectiveness of service provision to students, faculty, and staff.
  • Assist with implementing director approved accommodation plans to include but no limited too tests with accommodations and note taking services.

Provides assistance and information to students regarding counseling services. Serve as initial point of contact for counseling services.

  • Schedule appointments and receive phone calls and voicemails
  • Work in collaboration with other departments to connect students with counseling services and to connect with a counselor.
  • Provide explanation regarding the resources that are provided by the counseling center and counseling guidelines.
  • Provides assistance in career counseling and COPS assessment tools.
  • Provides assistance with online career assessment Elevate with payment and annual setup
  • Provide problem, advocacy, and triage for students in crisis situations in collaboration with counseling services faculty.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Excellent customer service skills

Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree
  • Intermediate word processing, spreadsheet, database and publishing software experience.

Terms of Employment

This is a full-time classified position scheduled to work 40 hours per week. The starting salary is $42,444 with periodic increases and earning potential to $56,676 annually.

A collective bargaining agreement exists, and this position is represented by the Washington Public Employees Association (WPEA).

Most candidates will be hired at the beginning of the assigned salary range and advance after 6-months of continuous employment and every year following, in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
