Mortgage Underwriter (Credit Analyst)

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

This position provides business, individual and global underwriting of credit and related support functions relative to Omaha 100’s risk management process. This position offers expert advice to the Sr. Director of Operations and CEO to arrive at final credit decisions in accordance with Omaha 100’s policy and prudent safety and soundness standards.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Proactively maintain a clear and up-to-date understanding of Omaha 100 Credit Policy and Procedures.

2. Update weekly scorecard numbers and participate in weekly staff meeting.

3. Participate in weekly one-to-one with the CEO or Sr. Director of Operations where pipeline, performance, and scorecard numbers are reviewed.

4. Calculate income of applicants and verify eligibility for mortgage products.

5. Serve as primary point of contact with the loan committee, managing the preapproval and final approval process.

6. Coordinate title, flood, and appraisal orders and the initial balance with Nebraska Title Company.

7. Coordinate closing date and final balance with title and ensure closing documentation is sent to FNBO (servicer).

8. Oversee and facilitate loan portfolio management including post-closing activities, file reviews, risk rating, collection of delinquents and charged off loans.

9. Ensure departmental areas of responsibilities are efficient and that loan files are supported by adequate documentation to ensure viability of loans.

10. Respond to escalations regarding credit questions and resolve issues.

11. Oversee pipeline to ensure loans are approved and then cleared-to-close within the expected turn-times.

12. Participate in developing process improvements, efficiencies, and new products.

13. Conduct periodic loan level audits to ensure compliance with all company quality standards.

14. Analyze and support system changes to increase efficiency and productivity within the mortgage lending team.

15. Implement mortgage software system updates to optimize system processes.

16. Obtains reports from mortgage software and evaluates for efficient mortgage flow.

17. Assists in evaluating and recommending waivers and exceptions as applicable.

18. Develops, coordinates, and maintains real estate lending policies and procedures, including quality control.

19. Other duties as assigned.

BEST CANDIDATE KSAs (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

1. Excellent communication skills (both written and verbal).

2. Knowledge of and experience working with start-ups and/or non-profit organizations is helpful.

3. Advanced computer skills and proficiency with the most current MS Windows applications.

4. Experience managing multiple programs effectively is important to the success of this role.

5. An ability and talent to work peacefully with multiple staff in a fast-paced work environment.

6. Extensive knowledge of program services' guidelines and regulations (i.e. HUD, Fair Housing, HIPAA).

7. Strong aptitude for creative problem solving, comprehending complex written materials, and communicating complex matters in a clear and concise manner.

8. Positive attitude, creativity and strong work ethic required.

9. Some evening and weekend hours may be required on an occasional basis.

10. Program implementation and/or creation experience is a strong plus.

11. Must understand business lending practices, basic business transactions, and familiarity with federal grant compliance requirements.

12. Ability to create and implement efficient systems, policies and procedures.

13. Ability to apply empathy, confidentiality, and effectively speak in public or group settings.

14. Knowledge of and ability to apply grant and mortgage lending regulations and practices.

EDUCATION:

Secondary education or equivalent experience in one or more of the following areas: education, human services, social work, law, urban development, communications, public administration, business or related field.

CERTIFICATIONS & LICENSES:

Valid Driver’s License and reliable transportation. This position will drive on behalf of the company to attend events and to gather office materials so appropriate liability insurance coverage is necessary.

PHYSICAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position works in a fast-paced office environment with responsibility for answering phones and responding to in-person inquiries. Frequent walking, talking, standing and sitting is required. Occasional driving on behalf of the company for events and acquiring office materials is necessary.
