What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Assistant position at OMNISTAR?
An IR Center Medical Assistant in the holding area is responsible for pre-op and post-op care of all patients.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Make Pre-op call to the patient one week prior to the procedure explaining pre-operative instructions. Send post-op prescriptions to the patient’s pharmacy before the day of the procedure. These can be sent electronically, by fax or phoned in. Call Pathology to coordinate biopsy pickup along with completing any information that may need to be sent along with the specimen. Call patient on the day of consult for Review of Systems (history of patient, current medications) Reconciliation of medications Pre-op
- Take patients back to get ready for the procedure.
- Start IVs, fill out 2 screening questionnaires.
- Monitor the patient prior to the procedure. Notify the nurse or physician of any vital changes.
Sedation Transfer - from Procedure Room to Bay
- Document signed by Nurse and MA at time of transfer
- Call the patient’s family of their status and confirm pickup time
- If transport is needed, call transport and take the patient to vehicle at time of discharge
- Monitor the patient for 2 hours post-op. Document vitals. Notify the nurse of any changes.
- Manage and access the patients groin site to ensure no bleeding or hematoma occurs.
- Hold pressure on arterial site if needed

Pay: $21.00 - $22.00 per hour
