Position Summary:
Biomason is seeking a Concrete Chemist responsible for contributing to the identification and development of admixtures that are compatible with biocement. This position will report to the Director of Applications.
Responsibilities:
- Providing a leading voice and input in the development activities of biologically formed cement binder and concrete.
- Leading the scientific chemical understanding of biocement formulations and the working principles
- Leading the characterization of biocement formulations in laboratory and real world applications
- Drives the analysis and correlation of in-line process variables to end-of-line product specifications
- Drives the failure mode analysis on experimental, pilot and volume manufacturing runs to continuously improve the process control and end product quality
- Assists in creation of new cement and concrete standards.
- Enabling the certification of biocement formulations
- Perform laboratory analyses and procedures to establish the acceptability of biocement for use invarious concrete applications through close collaboration with internal departments and deep technical customer engagements.
- Any other duties as assigned
Competencies:
- Knowledge in organic and analytical chemistry
- Experience in raw materials used in cement formulation
- Knowledge of cement chemistry, cement hydration and cement-admixture interactions
- Knowledge of trends in concrete products such as low carbon or novel cement binders
- Understanding of conventional cement mineralogies and chemistries
- Understanding of cement production, testing, and standards
- Understanding of metrics for measurement and visualization of cement
- Experience in critical analysis of test results
- Familiar with all related ASTM and European standards for testing of cement
- A strong interest in working in a fast-paced research environment
- Experience in research and development activities such as analyzing and writing technical papers
- Exceptional writing, presentation, time management and communication skills
- Creative mind, eager to turn new process concepts into practice and to demonstrate their technical feasibility
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Material or Chemical Engineering
- 10 years of experience in research activities concerning cement formulation and analysis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated new cement and/or admixture formulations development and certification
- Master’s degree in Material Science, Material or Chemical Engineering
