Organization Description
The Open Door Project is an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization created to empower the children of this community with self-worth, belonging, and hope. Kids of all ages participate in our programs each week. Our programs are uniquely designed to equip children with tools to help them successfully navigate the challenges they face in their daily lives.
The Open Door Project provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for kids to explore their feelings, express themselves through creative means such as art, music, and dance, as well as group discussions and personal mentorship. We believe that when children are given a safe space, and a community within that space, they will thrive.
Job Summary
The Program Director will work to achieve the mission and vision of Open Door Project by providing support in the areas of student programming, marketing, communications, and financial stability.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Programs
- In collaboration with Open Door Project Executive Director, board of directors, and staff, create a program schedule for each semester
- Ensure the smooth operation of all programs by being present and available to students and staff
- Discover and research new possible curriculum for each semester and be willing to lead programs as needed
- Select and schedule appropriate staff, volunteers, student volunteers, and teachers/facilitators for all programs
- Coordinate effectively with program teachers/facilitators to ensure that all supplies and materials are available for each program
- Collect and provide data for monitoring the effectiveness of the programs using surveys
Financial Stability
- Develop strategies for maintaining current funding and obtaining additional resources to sustain the Open Door Project
- Obtaining financial resources, writing grants, creating and maintaining donations/gifts and donor relationships, fundraising, and contracts.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board to manage extramural funds from grants, donations, fundraising, contracts, etc.
- Assist in creating, training, and maintaining a finance team of new employees/interns as necessary
Outreach & Communication
- Create and nurture effective communication with students and parents, including the distribution of registration forms and necessary waivers for all programs
- Plan, create, and publish content on social media that builds meaningful connections with the community
- Create a quarterly newsletter to be distributed to parents, donors, and community members
- Update the Board of Directors and Executive Director on program progress
- Act as a liaison and spokesperson for the Organization at school board meetings or other community meetings as necessary.
Other
- Perform maintenance activities to keep a clean, inviting environment for students and staff
- Maintain and refill any program, operating, and food supplies that are needed to complete programs (Lists of purchases will be approved by Board)
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree or higher in Social Work, Counseling, or Psychology
- Experience working with youth (or related experience)
- Competency working in a diverse environment (racial, cultural, religious, income, etc.)
Skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Excellent command of technology
- Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, specifically Word and Excel
- Strong organizational ability with a fine-tuned attention to detail; and ability to prioritize and act and meet deadlines
- Ability to update websites and online content
- Ability to create marketing materials for printed and online communications using professional programs
- Self-motivated and adaptable; well organized to select priorities and handle multiple tasks
- Ability to collaborate and work as a team
- Positive, enthusiastic, and energetic attitude
- Relational skills and abilities in working with students, parents, and community partners (schools, businesses, etc.)
- Patience and empathy to work with youth from difficult life circumstances
- Ability to create a safe environment for all students regardless of personal, spiritual or political beliefs
