Job Posting for Textile Designer at Open Systems Technologies
Our South Shore retail client is looking for a Textile Designer with 3 years' experience for an immediate role that will be needed mulitple times a year to assist with busy seasons. Previou sexperience in women's retail or fashion required. Ideally looking for textile or apparel experience of at least two years.
As the Textile Designer, you'll develop concept boards, the sketch library, design artwork and select color using trend and color services.
You'll also designs, develop and executs technically accurate artwork for private label programs, working with the Product Development and Design team from the concept meeting through the prototype process and artwork execution. In addition, you should be comfortable providing updates on the status of multiple projects as well as anticipating problems and devising solutions for said problems. Previous experience in the retail industry required as well as strong skills with the Adobe Suite.
Responsibilities
Oversee trend and product line direction with the ability to create a focused brand concept
Present brand concepts at meetings and review styles and assortments with merchants.
Work together with merchants at Concept Meeting on Road Maps, fabrics, colors and print choices.
Monitor daily status of product development including, design, technical design, and production.
Must fully understand garment development and manufacturing process to ensure compliance to all lead times as set by the company calendar
Analyze all price quotes partnering with sourcing, work with merchants to ensure target costs are achieved, and understand fabric and yarn costs.
Approve all fabrics & yarns for appearance, quality, weight, and hand-feel, using formal guidelines and technical knowledge.
Approve prototype samples for style details and construction.
Initiate and prepare design specification packages and provide to Technical Design.
Manage workflow from initial concept through final placement of styles.
Manage approval process of all strike offs, pattern trims, and technically correct lap dips.
Leverage buyer’s knowledge to learn about customers likes and dislikes and identify key styles. Strong awareness concerning returns reporting.
Initiate testing of new styles and concepts.
Daily communication with all overseas offices.
Manage and develop Associate Product Manager, if required.
Travel required both overseas and domestic.
Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Possess creativity & eye for color.
Ability to give effective presentations.
A team player with a demonstrated ability to problem solve and partner with appropriate Merchants, Sourcing, Technical Design team members and others to effect solutions.
Strong verbal & written communication skills.
Knowledge of competitive intelligence for increased awareness of trends & price points.
College Degree or equivalent experience.
Computer proficiency in MS Word and Excel is required software. PLM, Adobe Photoshop, and Illustrator experience strongly preferred.
