Operations Services, Inc. established services provider in the water treatment services market, we manage, operate, and develop solutions for municipal, commercial and industrial clients in Michigan and several other states within the US. We provide management services for utilities, and specialized water treatment plants, industrial pretreatment, private developer services and billing services. We employ a small team of approximately 60 people at various locations in Michigan and Illinois. This position is based in the Eagle, Michigan area.
JOB TITLE: WASTEWATER/WATER OPERATOR
JOB SUMMARY:
This position performs work of a skilled nature which requires special training, education, and experience. Must have knowledge and skills in several trades such as plumbing, electrical, and mechanical maintenance. Operates a variety of specialty equipment; makes repairs and adjustments of moderate to high difficulty on the water production, distribution system, waste water plant and the SCADA control system in accordance with EGLE regulations; performs chemical tests and collects water quality samples to assure water purity and waste water analysis; operates and maintains lift stations and pumping stations; assignments are received from supervisor but employees in this class are expected to exercise a great deal of judgment in selecting work methods, equipment, material, and planning.
POSITION COMPENSATION:
Salary range is $20 to $30 per hour, but is dependent on experience and qualifications. Range can be increased for highly qualified candidates.
Position is 40 hours a week Monday – Friday (Day Shift). Some weekend work may be required. Additionally, the candidate will be part of an on-call rotation for any after hour emergencies.
JOB DUTIES:
- Safety focus (Safe Work Practices, Safe Operating Procedures) is your top priority; core safety skills training will be provided
- Monitors and adjusts water/waste water system operations to maintain adequate supply and demand. This requires night and weekend SCADA monitoring as assigned. Checks SCADA system for daily operation reports.
- Collects water/waste water samples to determine if water meets EGLE regulations. Analyzes water & waste water samples to determine their permit requirements.
- Operates and/or directs the use of division specific equipment in which employee is qualified. Skilled in use and operation of division's safety equipment such as air monitors, SCBA, and personal protective equipment.
- Maintains records, inventory supply lists, and log entries.
- Investigates and resolves customer problems and complaints.
- Thorough knowledge of the Department’s Standard Operating Procedures and Safety Practices.
- Assists in emergencies for water/wastewater infrastructure & plants.
- Performs unskilled and semi-skilled laboring tasks.
- Install/Repair new & used equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance work and operates a variety of equipment in the construction, repair, maintenance and replacement of utility infrastructure. Determines tools and materials needed for assignments. Uses and cares for tools and equipment used by the Company. Monitors contractors and provides contract oversight. Investigates and resolves customer service requests relating to the Company Projects. Assists the Supervisor with administrative functions. Performs other duties as assigned. Perform some lab analysis for our waste water operations. May include direct contact with residents.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education equivalent to a high school diploma. College level experience highly desired.
- A minimum of two years of experience in a water or wastewater treatment facilities with a thorough knowledge of skilled maintenance and construction work.
- Possession of a valid Michigan Class S4/D4 Water Operator's Certification is desired, but if not two years experience will be sufficient for future certifications. .
- Possession of a valid Michigan Class D Waste Water Operator's Certification is desired, but if not two years experience will be sufficient for future certifications.
- Possession of a valid State of Michigan Driver’s License.
- Proficiency with current computer software systems, including email, calendar programs, job specific software, and customer service systems preferred or within the first six months of employment.
- Strong wastwater/water laboratory experience is desirable.
WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Subject to high levels of noise for an extended period of time.
- Subject to extremes of temperature for prolonged periods or abrupt changes in temperature.
- Subject to fumes or disagreeable odors.
- Subject to exposure to inclement weather conditions.
- Subject to extended periods of isolation.
- Subject to working in wet, dirty, dusty, hot humid, and/or cold conditions in high vehicle traffic areas.
- Physical strength and agility sufficient to do strenuous laboring tasks under varying weather conditions; ability to lift and move 75 pound or more on a frequent basis.
- Frequent and/or prolonged bending, stooping, standing, pulling, pushing, or reaching.
- Prolonged periods of concentration such as proof reading, figure work, drawing, reading blue prints, etc.
- Frequent contact with the public; must be able to effectively communicate verbally and demonstrate good customer relations.
- Frequently completes written technical forms; must be able to effectively communicate in writing.
- Subject to frequently changing walking surfaces.
- Subject to working for extended periods of time: 12 hours normally and 18 hours infrequently for several consecutive days.
SELECTION PROCESS:
Candidate screening process may consist of an application review, skills testing, employability assessment, interviews, reference checks, and other job-related testing or verifications. Chosen candidates will be subject to qualifying pre-employment medical examination and drug screen.
