What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assembly Technician position at Opportunities?
Essential Functions:
- With minimal supervision, assembles sub-assemblies and/or finished products in accordance with written and verbal instructions. (Industrial Cranes and Crane sub-assemblies)
- Performs on-line testing and inspection activities to include Line Test, RCL and Final inspection and tests.
- In accordance with company procedures, cleans and prepares units for next operation.
- Complies with all safety and hazardous material procedures.
- Complies with Quality Management System requirements in accordance with ISO9001
- Required to initiate Engineering Change Requests to improve quality, reduce cycle times and /or to correct nonconformities.
- Required to comply with requirements for Hazardous waste Management.
- Provides training to other employees on assembly and inspection and test procedures.
- Performs troubleshooting and repair of systems and components, as required.
- Maintains accurate records, as required.
- Maintains all aspects of workplace organization.
- Ensures Compliance in all safety, health, and environmental regulations, policies, and procedures for a goal of zero incidents and injuries.
- Communicate consistently on all activities to appropriate individuals (internal and external).
- Maintain ongoing communication and adhere to all Company policies to eliminate and or reduce exposure to liability.
- Special projects or work as assigned by the Supervisor.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Required to maintain accurate records.
- May be required to operate forklifts.
- May be required to perform welding.
- May aid other departments, as needed.
- Will be required to participate in Small Group Improvement Activity Teams, daily Team Meetings and Team Exercise sessions.
- Required to identify opportunities for improvements and submit in accordance with Continuous Improvement Program.
- Will be required to assist and train other team members on proper assembly, inspection, and test, and troubleshooting techniques.

Qualifications Guidelines
Experience/Training/Education:
Required: High School graduate, or equivalent, plus minimum 10 years of related experience.
Desired: College degree or Vocational training in mechanical, hydraulic and / or electronic assembly.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
Requires knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical assemblies and testing experience; Requires an eye for detail. Ability to recognize all colors in a normal spectrum; basic knowledge of SPC fundamentals; thorough knowledge and understanding of applicable operating and documentation procedures and material flow. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office products and other data systems; Ability to meet deadlines; to understand and follow written and verbal instructions; Ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures; ability to accept constructive criticism; ability to prioritize, organize, solve problems, and complete tasks independently; ability to lead, supervise and train others; ability to communicate effectively and work cooperatively with subordinates, members of management, vendors, and other employees.
Physical and Environmental Elements:
This is a production classification and employees work in a factory environment with exposure to noise and machinery. Accurate hand/eye coordination is required. Finger dexterity is required, as well as hand strength, with the ability to grasp, lift, push and pull. Work involves considerable standing, stooping, bending, or sitting for long periods of time. May lift parts weighing up to 50 pounds.
