Development & Public Relations Intern (Development Focus)

ABOUT US: 

• The Baby Fold has been successfully wrapping services around children and families since 1902, offering life-critical support such as foster care, special education, early childhood programming, and adoption support. The Baby Fold is a unique resources with a strong and enduring heritage. We care for our youngest citizens so they can be blessed with loving homes, stable lives, and the futures they deserve.

SUMMARY: 

• The Development and Public Relations (DPR) Intern will assist DPR staff in event planning, donor stewardship, volunteer communication, and more. Primary activities will involve The Baby Fold’s Christmas Wish List program.
• The Christmas Wish List program ensures that The Baby Fold’s children in need receive holiday gifts each December. Program staff work with families to gather wants and needs for each child. Members of the community then volunteer to adopt wish lists and purchase gifts. Each year the program coordinates gifts for over 700 children.
• Work will take place at the Development and Public Relations Offices (108 E. Willow, Normal) with occasional tasks at other Baby Fold campuses. This is not a remote position.
• This is an unpaid position averaging 10 hours per week with additional hours needed in November/December.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

• General project management:
  • Assist DPR staff in various aspects of project planning, volunteer coordination, donor solicitation, and more.
  • Manage Christmas Wish List project logistics, such as tracking of wish lists and donors, coordinating with program staff as needed.
• Event promotion and communication:
  • Coordinate logistics and volunteers for Christmas Wish List drop-off and pick-up days.
  • Initiate, coordinate, and participate in various methods to publicize events. Participate in any public relations tasks to ensure that all information about the event is communicated positively and accurately.
  • Create and distribute promotional materials as needed.
  • Create and send donor and volunteer email communications.
• Stewardship and development:
  • Assist DPR staff with finding and applying for grants to fund programs and services.
  • Assist the Director of Development with development appeals and tasks as needed
• Communicate with potential event sponsors and donors, following up as necessary; ensure Festival of Trees event sponsors receive appropriate sponsor benefits.
• Represent The Baby Fold in corresponding with volunteers, donors, sponsors, and vendors.
• Other duties as assigned:
• Assist the DPR staff with various other tasks as needed.

REQUIREMENTS OF THE DPR INTERN: 

• Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Communication Studies, or related field.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software programs and computer technology needed to produce reports and publications.
• Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials.
• Must pass drug screen and necessary background checks.
• Reliable transportation within Bloomington-Normal area in order to fulfill position responsibilities.
• Demonstrated competence in serving a culturally diverse population. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a diverse workforce.
• Mission-oriented and willing to apply The Baby Fold’s standards and beliefs to the performance of job duties.
