Job Summary
Develops, analyzes, maintains, and modifies school bus routes. Responds to and reports on school bus transportation issues as representative for the Duval County School District. These issues may include: traffic accidents, accidental injuries, overloaded/underutilized buses, new school openings and program changes. Contacts citizens, parents, students, bus contractors and operators, school officials and employees, and various governmental agencies as appropriate. May work shift work to cover extended operating hours.
Essential Functions
1. Plans, develops, and maintains bus routes using routing software in conjunction with observation in the field and input from bus operators and contractor managers.
2. Makes projections for potential routing needs; develop new routes for summer programs, new programs, program changes and relocation, new schools, and boundary changes.
3. Conducts bus audits at school sites and/or contractor facility for bus operator procedural compliance.
4. Collects route and rider information from bus operators and contractors.
5. Analyzes existing or proposed bus stop locations for student safety and access by bus using department guidelines.
6. Facilitates route changes at schools by assisting school staff with implementation.
7. Assists school staff with loading and/or unloading procedures, data collection, and suggestions for traffic flow.
8. Surveys bus routes and bus stops for analysis and implementation of route changes to achieve maximum route efficiency in terms of reduced mileage and maximum student ridership.
9. Provides response to school bus transportation related incidents or accidents.
10. Compiles information, maintains records, and prepares correspondence, responses to inquiries, information, and detailed reports regarding transportation-related issues, policies, procedures , rules and regulations.
11. Assists with the coordination of transportation-related projects and issues with other school system departments.
12. Performs other duties as assigned.
Probation: Six (6) months
Qualifications
Open Requirements: Ability to read, write and speak English. Some experience in a transportation-related field which included analyzing logistic-related problems preferred. Experience in the field of school transportation preferred.

Licensing/Certification/Registration: A valid Florida Driver’s License is required prior to appointment and must be maintained during employment in this class.
