Job Details:
The Service Technician II (SVT II) is the highest level of the advanced Service Technician position within
the Field Services department. The SVT II is responsible for outside plant maintenance of the company’s
RF based coaxial and fiber systems. This technician has completed and shown significant competency
in both the BBT I, BBT II and SVT I positions. The SVT II performs advanced measurements and various
service tests to maintain company services throughout the coaxial based systems as well as the fiber
infrastructure. The SVT II maintains both forward and return operations within the RF plant and light
levels at all nodes and at assigned fiber demarcation hubs (FDH) within the optical transport network.
The Service Technician II is the highest level of advanced service technicians within the company, and
career advancement is dependent upon completion of proper certifications within the company and/or
a thorough display of competence within all tasks associated with SVT II.
Specific Job Duties:
Performs all duties of the BBT I, BBT II and SVT I positions as needed including various
installations, in home/premise troubleshooting and system maintenance.
Performs advanced OSP operations to support the Service Tech I position including diagnosing
advanced service issues and node and amplifier station setup.
Responsible for the return plant operations and the proper alignment and RF configuration of
all DOCSIS based carriers within the system.
Performs system sweep testing utilizing the appropriate sweep gear and headend based
equipment.
Performs basic fiber splicing to support node repairs and installations as well as service outages
as needed.
Responsible to work with Service Tech I to maintain proper fiber light levels at all fiber node
locations.
Performs OTDR traces to diagnose and evaluate fiber spans and potential issues as needed
within the outside plant.
Assists the System Technician I on headend construction and maintenance as needed.
Maintains FDH locations within the system to maintain functionality, system levels, security of
the system and all aspects of the cabinet/facility.
Performs quarterly leakage and ingress testing per FCC requirements and company policies.
Provides updates to system maps for both coaxial and fiber infrastructure and presents them to
the System Technician and management for processing.
Minimum Job Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and operate at heights up to 40 feet using extension ladders
and/or bucket truck. Ability to work while standing 50-70% of the time.
Work in all weather conditions and in various spaces such as attics and crawl spaces. Must be
able to perform the tasks assigned in these areas that may be poorly ventilated and where
there may be dirt, dust, noise, insects, rodents, pets, and cleaning supplies.
Work in areas near power lines and active electrical services.
Familiarity with computer operating systems and a variety of customer devices including
smartphones, computers, routers, modems, set top boxes and wireless devices.
Ability to and willingness to learn to use various handheld devices including signal level meters,
spectrum analyzers, digital multi-meters as well as computer provided laptop and various
software.
A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record that fall within company requirements.
Must be able to travel to and from assigned territories and company facilities, including during
inclement weather.

Willingness to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays.
Able to work a rotating on call schedule.
