Optima Engineering is looking for an Mechanical Designer with 5 years of experience to join our team in Asheville, NC. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in mechanical engineering, experience with 3D modeling and design, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.

We are a 30-year old, well-established, multi-disciplined engineering firm with offices located in Charlotte, Raleigh and Asheville offering mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection & technology related engineering services to diverse market sectors including mission critical, educational, healthcare, commercial, government and other clients. Our goal is to deliver reliable, high-quality, innovative engineering solutions to our clients and provide a top-notch work environment to our team.

General Responsibilities:

  • Basic understanding of DX systems (split systems and rooftops)
  • Knows how to run HVAC load calculations
  • Can use load calculations to size equipment and layout systems
  • Understands how to size ductwork and distribute airflow
  • Has a basic understanding of structural, plumbing, and electrical systems and how they affect HVAC design
  • Can fill out basic HVAC schedules with proper information
  • Selects and edits appropriate HVAC details applicable to their projects
  • Can review RFIs and submittals specific to their projects

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.
  • Candidates must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering, 3D modeling and design proficiency in AutoCad and REVIT.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
  • Plumbing and Fire Protection design experience
  • Experience in designing systems in accordance with local, state and federal building codes
  • Experience designing projects from conceptual design to completion

Pay: $65,000.00 - $89,000.00 per year

Ability to commute/relocate:

  • Asheville, NC 28806: Reliably commute or planning to relocate before starting work (Preferred)

Experience:

  • Revit: 1 year (Preferred)
  • AutoCAD: 1 year (Required)
  • Commercial construction design & projects: 2 years (Preferred)

Salary : $65,000 - $89,000
