Overall Job Description:
The Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) plays a crucial role in supporting dental professionals, ensuring efficient patient care, and maintaining a sterile and organized dental environment. They assist during dental procedures, provide patient education, and contribute to the overall smooth operation of the dental practice.
Requirements:
- Successful completion of an accredited dental assisting program
- Current California Registered Dental Assistant (RDA) license
- CPR/BLS certification
- Strong knowledge of dental procedures, instruments, and terminology
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work well in a team environment and adapt to various dental specialties
- Proficiency in using dental software and electronic health records (EHR) systems
Essential Functions:
Chairside Assistance:
- Prepare treatment rooms, instruments, and materials needed for dental procedures.
- Assist the dentist during examinations and procedures by passing instruments, providing suction, and performing other chairside tasks.
Patient Care and Education:
- Ensure patients are comfortable and informed about procedures, aftercare, and oral hygiene practices.
- Educate patients on proper oral health, including brushing, flossing, and diet.
Sterilization and Infection Control:
- Adhere to infection control protocols by properly sterilizing instruments and maintaining a clean and safe clinical environment.
- Manage and monitor sterilization equipment to ensure effectiveness and compliance with regulatory standards.
Records Management:
- Accurately document patient information, treatment plans, and procedures in the electronic health records (EHR) system.
- Maintain and organize patient records in compliance with privacy and confidentiality regulations.
Radiography and Imaging:
- Capture and develop dental radiographs (X-rays) as prescribed by the dentist, ensuring proper technique and patient safety.
- Manage and maintain X-ray equipment, including quality assurance and safety protocols.
Supply Management and Inventory:
- Manage dental supplies, ordering and restocking as necessary, and monitoring inventory levels.
- Assist in managing the budget and controlling costs related to supplies and equipment.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, sit, and move around for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for operating dental instruments and equipment.
- Visual acuity for accurate record-keeping and patient care.
Work Environment:
- The work is typically performed in a dental office setting, with regular interaction with patients and dental staff.
- The environment may involve exposure to various dental materials, chemicals, and radiographic equipment, necessitating strict adherence to safety and infection control protocols.
