Under general supervision, The Medical Lab Assistant is responsible for performing various tasks in a timely manner, maintaining accuracy, confidentiality and safety.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment.
- Sorting micro lab specimens, making positive id on all patients samples, plating
- selection correct inoculation media for various specimens arriving in micro
- lab.
- Trouble shoot, specimens arriving without orders, finding orders in Epic
- releasing them into soft.
- Detecting incorrect or duplicate orders.
- Being helpful and courteous to all staff.
- Un-packing, storing supplies making sure to rotate stock, and prevent the use of outdated supplies.
- They are responsible for packaging and sending out microbiology supplies for all the satellites as needed which is a daily chore.
- Microbiology lab assistant take part in training new hires for satellites under a microbiologist supervision.
- In the absence of a microbiologist past 6 PM interacts with Providers and clinical staff and communicate patient results to them to the extent of their ability.
- Responsible for doing some rapid less complexity testing.(Rapid Strep, Influenza,
RSV) Setting up Kirby-Bauer sensitivity, and identification. Making reagents,
autoclaving, making deionized water and maintaining water making apparatus in
working order.
- Cleaning and disinfecting work areas.
- Maintain a professional image. Maintaining a safe and healthy work environment by complying with safety regulations.

- Integrates Lean principles, practices and tools to improve operational efficiency, reduce costs and increase customer satisfaction.
- Frequently must follow written and oral instructions as well as complete routine tasks independently.
- Completes annual compliance training on HIPAA/Privacy/Confidentiality/Non-Discrimination/Harassment/Integrity Statement and signs Agreements.
- Ensures confidentiality of patient information following HIPAA guidelines and TEC policies.
- Attends training to meet requirements of the job position and as needed or mandated by TEC policies, Div. of Occupational Safety & Health (DOSH), OSHA, L&I and other state/federal regulations.
- Has regular and predictable attendance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: People friendly, service oriented, multi-tasking ability
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Basic lab knowledge. Computer experience.
Understands and utilizes the principles of teamwork.
Education: High school graduate or equivalent
Experience: Prefer 1 year working in Health Care
