What are the responsibilities and job description for the Provider Relations Specialist position at Optum?
Overview:
Responsible for supporting the administrative functions of the provider networks and serving as a resource for the network, department and clinician network liaisons. Support the Provider Relations Managers who are responsible for the operations of the provider network(s) in assigned region, and is the direct interface between Optum and the affiliate physician network. This position provides continuous education, support, training and troubleshooting to physicians and their staff. Serve as an interface between the central departments and the Independent Physician Association (IPA) network.
Essential Functions:
- The role will start hybrid, but may go back to the office full time.
- Consistently exhibits behavior and communication skills that demonstrate our company’s commitment to superior customer service, including quality, care and concern with each and every internal and external customer.
- Uses, protects, and discloses our patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
- Supports regional projects and initiatives by creating project plans, serving as a subject matter expert (SME), and implementing new business processes to physician network.
- Develop and own reporting and analyses for IPA operations team.
- Identify procedural areas of improvement through customer feedback and data.
- Uses, protects, and discloses Optum patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
Education:
- Minimum: high school diploma
- Preferred: Bachelor's degree
Experience:
- Minimum: Up to and including 1 year of experience.
- Preferred: 3 to 5 years of experience.
- Preferred: Medical office or project coordination experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) applications.
- Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to use correct English grammar and spelling.
- Ability to maintain courteous and friendly demeanor when dealing with the public and co-workers.
- Task-oriented.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced team-oriented environment.
