As a Brazer/Welder, a typical day will most likely include the following responsibilities:
Assemble and silver brazes components to fabricated metal items such as copper to copper, and copper to brass; as specified by work orders, diagrams, or layout, by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Performs the steps listed below in accordance with established brazing procedures for which the incumbent has been tested and qualified using ASME criteria. Must be able to pass brazing certification.
- Reads and interpret blueprints, engineering specifications, standard operating procedures and manufacturing orders.
- Mechanical ability needed to assemble components using manual tools and power tools.
- Aligns and clamps parts together, or positions items in fixtures, jigs, or vise.
- Prepares components and tubing joints, brushes flux along seams.
- Heats metal with torch to proper temperature for soldering.
- Guides torch along seam to heat workpiece to bonding temperature and dips bar or wire of specified soft solder in seam to solder joint.
- Softens flux on work piece by soaking in water bath.
- Grinds, cuts, or bends edges to fit fabricated parts together.
- Brazes or soft solders broken parts or covers holes to repair leaks.
- Assembles components to make final assemblies per drawings and work orders.
- Close attention to detail needed to follow detailed work instructions, processes and procedures (written and verbal) to meet customer expectations.
- Individual safety awareness responsibility needed; understanding of safety regulations in facility and PPE.
- Maintains a clean and organized work area to facilitate 5S/Kaizen manufacturing functions.
- Availability to work overtime and move between shipping and material finishing departments for training and/or coverage purposes to support production as needed.
- Performs other assignments as directed by management.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or two to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS: Must be able to pass ASME brazing certification on procedures qualified by Acme.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
