The University of Iowa’s College of Dentistry is looking for a full time Dental Assistant to join us as a key member of our team in Oral Pathology, Radiology & Medicine to work alongside dental students, graduate students, and faculty. Duties include radiology teaching, radiology service and assisting in the oral pathology area. These specific duties are performed in three different areas of the clinic. · Expose, digitally intraoral/extraoral and special projection of images.
· Trouble shoots and exposes radiographs for all collegiate departments
· Verbally communicates departmental procedures in Radiology student orientation
· Provides chairside assistance; could include surgical biopsies, dental procedures, dental examinations
· Demonstrates/assists students in proper technique when making intraoral/extraoral radiographs in the clinic
· Provides quality assurance testing to all departments
· Escorts patients to operatory and prepares patients for treatment (blood pressure, history, etc.)
· Prepares operatory and obtains instruments for patient procedures and returns dirty instruments to dispensary
· Cleans operatory, wipes down dental chair, tube, counter, and instruments per prescribed infection control protocol.
· Mixes compounds, places material in trays in preparation of patient impressions, pours trim for patient splint
· Other duties as assigned

Salary: $44,560.96
Schedule: Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 5:00pm – May require occasional overtime.
An advanced starting salary may be possible based on exceptional qualifications.
MINIMUM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
1. Successful completion of a CODA accredited dental assistance program or one-year full time equivalency in chairside assistant experience assisting in four-handed method of dentistry.
2. Must have a current certificate of registration to practice as a dental assistant issued by the Iowa Board of Dental Examiners (QDA)
3. Must possess current Iowa certificate of proficiency in dental radiography (QDA)
4. No additional work experience beyond the requirements for this position
5. May require Expanded Functions (EF-1 and/or EF-2) based on specific needs assigned by provider.
Desirable Qualifications:
· Knowledge of dental assisting skills
· Digital Radiology experience
· Good communication skills and ability to communicate concepts
· Certified Dental Assistant
