Pay Range*: $20.00/hr - $29.00/hr

Position Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is an unlicensed caregiver working under the direction of the Registered Nurse or Physician. The EMT provides the most basic of patient care including, but not limited to vital sign collection, specimen collection, performance of ECG testing, and delivery of personal hygiene/physical care. EMT’s perform tasks as assigned and are instrumental in facilitating departmental/unit flow activities that support patient care and promote a safe, clean environment.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities of the Job

• Follows directions and employs self-initiative.
• Demonstrates knowledge of the clinical information system and applies principles to patient documentation.
• Contributes to an effective and safe working environment; able to safely and competently perform assigned duties.
• Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of patient privacy rights. Maintains confidentiality of all medical, financial and other sensitive material in printed, electronic or verbal form, which may jeopardize the privacy of patients and or employees.
• Demonstrates the ability to use good customer service skills by managing and acknowledging patient-family-significant other expectations.
• Demonstrates tact, sensitivity and discretion.
• Demonstrates the ability and to safely and competently perform assigned tasks/duties according to hospital policies and procedures.
• Demonstrates the ability to implement interventions to promote optimum patient care and outcomes under the direction of a Registered Nurse.
• Performs cleaning and stocking in the work environment in order to promote optimal departmental functioning.
• Demonstrates the ability to safely and competently use equipment in the performance of assignment.
• Utilizes effective communication with patient/family/visitors/Health care Team members.
• Possesses knowledge of job specific competencies and demonstrates the ability to safely perform tasks associated with job responsibilities.
• Other duties as assigned.

• Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Minimum Requirements

Qualifications/Work Experience:

• One (1) year of acute care experience preferred
• Basic computer knowledge preferred

Education/Licensure/Certification:

• High School Diploma or equivalency preferred
• Current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification required
• Current American Heart Association Basic Cardiac Life Support Card required
