What are the responsibilities and job description for the Metal Shop Manager position at Orbus?
Orbus, is a leading and highly successful manufacturer and trade distributor of products and services to the tradeshow and display industries. We are a visual communication disrupter providing products and services to help speak a company’s brand and vision! We are headquartered in Woodridge, IL and seeking a Metal Shop Manager.
This individual will be someone who can manage and coordinate the activities of the aluminum fabrication and pre-make assembly departments, by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.
Job Duties:
- Analyze work orders, schedules, and other specifications to determine parts and assemblies requiring fabrication, modification, and assist with equipment/product changeovers.
- Operate within established procedures for assembly quality, shop safety, and customer requirements.
- Inspect work output and processes to ensure adherence to standards and specifications.
- Produce daily inspection logs and other paperwork needed to meet other production requirements.
- Perform hands-on training of new employees in work methods, procedures, and machinery operation.
- Operate and troubleshoot production machinery, as required.
- Effectively communicate with all levels of employees, management, executives, and outside sources.
- Submit and monitor requisition requests for fabrication department supplies and equipment tooling.
- Monitor and evaluate employee performance and output of substandard work and identify defective parts, tools, equipment and material, or other conditions that hinder the fabricating and assembly process.
- Select and purchase the various tooling used on the different CNC and manual machines.
Requirements:
- High School Diploma or Equivalent.
- Minimum of 3-year experience in a supervisory or managerial position in a metal fabrication shop or similar setting.
- Experience in managing TIG welders or actual TIG welding experience
- Experience in metal fabrication, operation of CNC and manual machines.
- Experience on tube bending
- Good Math skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Additional Requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must pass a post-offer drug screen and background check.
- Must be available to work a full-time schedule, Monday - Friday.
- Knowledge of CadCam programming and Solidworks a plus
