Department Overview

As the Director of Talent and Organizational Development, you will support and lead efforts that strengthen the performance of OHSU leaders, providers, and team members to achieve desired outcomes and advance system priorities and strategies consistently. You will provide expert consulting in performance management, succession planning, leader development and coaching, organization development interventions, change management, surveys and assessments, and other talent management processes to drive effective standardization and alignment across OHSU to build organizational cohesion, health, and flexibility. This individual is regarded as a trusted partner and collaborates with HR Business Partners, Talent Acquisition, Learning and faculty, and executives to support development and change initiatives. As the Director of Talent and Organizational Development, you will work independently and be an informal senior leader and member of the local executive team. You will identify issues and trends, recommend improvements, and facilitate change using a collaborative approach involving organizational learning, other human resources centers of excellence, and other stakeholders as necessary. You will also support integrating system-wide initiatives and objectives into business unit operations. As Director, you will report to the Associate Vice President of Talent Management.

Function/Duties of Position

  • Provides leadership, consultation and guidance to OHSU on organizational development strategies.

  • Leads the design and deployment of enterprise-wide development initiatives targeted to senior leaders: Uses business and competitive market insights to identify solutions that ensure organizational development supports business growth strategies.

  • Applies change management principles and best practices: Engages in executive-level coaching; manages a cohort of external executives. 
  • Conducts Leadership and Executive developmental assessments, feedback and action planning.

  • Partners with HR Leaders to ensure common approach for: Coaching, Mentoring, and Career Management.

  • Provides advice on organizational structure and job design to facilitate change, recruitment and retention goals: Consults and lends expertise to leaders on maximizing team development and effectiveness: Collaborates with HR leaders & business partners to ensure that the delivery of programs is well coordinated and executed.

Required Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, HR or Organizational Management, related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience:

  • Required 6 years of experience in driving key HR and business initiatives and priorities, including 3 years management/leadership.
  • Previous experience in healthcare or academia.

Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • A strong sense of urgency, action-orientation, drive for results and pragmatism are a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop practical solutions to address complex organizational challenges.
  • Ability to interact effectively with and influence executive leaders.
  • Strong business acumen; ability to align organizational development strategies with overall business goals.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills ability to communicate well with all levels of the organization; strong facilitation skills.
  • Strong project management skills must have ability to initiate project plans and balance multiple changing deadlines and priorities. Discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation.
