Function/Duties of Position

Adult Generalist Anesthesiology / Assistant, Associate, or Professor (0.9 FTE)

The appointee shall provide services as assigned by the supervisor in furtherance of the University's   missions and goals of teaching, research, patient care, outreach and public service.  Appointee shall have a demonstrated competence in patient care and teaching/mentorship.  The most desired candidate will also have interest/experience in research/scholarship/discovery and/or administrative leadership.

 

Teaches trainees and support staff in their area of professional expertise.  Teaching is done through assigned lectures to be given during the course of the year and through teaching in the course of performing their own job by modeling best practices, mentoring trainees, guiding learning through delegating graduated and focused levels of responsibility.  Assistant Professors have a demonstrated competence in teaching and are knowledgeable about relevant guidelines from all applicable regulating bodies. (E.g. ACGME competencies for clinical faculty).

 

Provides an outstanding level of professional performance (e.g. quality of clinical care for clinical faculty).  Professional performance is to be delivered in a manner that is compliant with the regulations and guidelines of all relevant regulating bodies (e.g. the American Society of Anesthesiologists, JCAHO, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid, OHSU IRB, NIH and all other state, federal, and institutional regulatory guidelines).  Treats all patients, research subjects, trainees and co-workers with dignity and respect.

 

May maintain a program of scholarly research activity directed toward improved understanding of the causes, detection, and treatment of diseases.  May develop and direct scholarly research activities focused toward improving the educational foundation within anesthesiology and perioperative medicine.  May engage in public service through consultative activities with OHSU and non-University groups as approved by the Chair.  May also participate in additional departmental or hospital administration as approved by the Chair or supervising Vice Chair.

 

Medical Director of Ambulatory Anesthesia (0.1 FTE)

The Medical Director for Adult Ambulatory Anesthesia will lead the Department’s efforts in providing outstanding care, creating a supportive educational environment for our learners and staff, and supporting research and scholarship for inpatients. The Director will work closely with nursing, surgeons, and other hospital leaders. There will also be close cooperation with other APOM directors whose responsibilities include ambulatory patients, such as the directors of regional anesthesia and NORA.

 

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Ensure that anesthesia care is delivered in a manner which provides an optimal patient experience, resulting in outstanding care and high levels of patient satisfaction and education
  • Serve on the AMG committee
  • Work collaboratively with specialty service directors whose services directly impact the CHH and ambulatory setting, including but not limited to PMC, regional, NORA, and Fertility
  • Actively participate in identifying and implementing cost saving activities
  • Support efforts to create care pathways and advance surgical homes
  • Help the surgeons understand the anesthesia considerations for different procedures they may perform and the impact of different patient conditions within the ambulatory setting
  • Help optimize Epic usage and accurate documentation
  • Work with Nursing, surgical leadership, and other hospital services to optimize the quality of interactions between APOM, surgical clinics and consulting services
  • Play a leadership role in promoting research activities both by anesthesia providers as well as collaborative based projects from members of other departments within the ambulatory ORs
  • Work with the Vice Chair of Education/Residency Program Director:
    • Ensure residents are achieving the expected experience from their rotations
    • Assist as needed in the creation of educational materials relevant to the ambulatory patient experience
  • Develop annual goals for quality, education and research

Required Qualifications

  • Doctorate in Medicine & residency training in Anesthesiology
  • Demonstrated competence in patient care & teaching
  • Board certification or eligibility for board certification in Anesthesiology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ideal candidates will have interest and expertise in research/scholarship/discovery and administrative leadership
