PURPOSE OF POSITION: The Business Intelligence Developer will provide support and assistance to the Healthcare Informatics team by assisting with the implementation of Business Intelligence technical processes and tools. This position is responsible for analyzing system problems, programming system fixes to existing applications, assisting in the development of program design specifications and developing new programs to automate business processes. Job consists of a wide variety of programming tasks, development, testing, maintenance and implementation, as well as fully participating in new software and system projects assigned to the Healthcare Informatics Department.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Participate in the strategic design and maintenance of business intelligence applications.
  • Work with analysts to build dashboards and reports, primarily using SQL and other organizational supported tools.
  • Establish datasets to provide meaningful healthcare data for planning, tracking and identification of success criteria and metrics for various insurance and regulatory projects.
  • Work with cross-functional organizational teams to develop and implement health management programs.
  • Develop systems to support the reporting of clinical, operational, quality and billing healthcare data.
  • Create and run tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications. Analyze SQL and VB code to find causes of errors and revise programs. Analyze performance of programs and reports and take action to correct deficiencies based on consultation with users and approval of manager.
  • Update or create documentation for existing processes and make suggestions for improvements, if needed.
  • Develop reports with SSRS using Stored Procedures and T-SQL.
  • Design, debug and maintain ETL processes.
  • Maintain a high level of customer service with internal and external customers.
  • Perform quality assurance of data sets and existing report processes.
  • Help the organization build a sustainable ETL process to store historical and slowly changing data.
  • Use data profiling tools to help identify issues within the organization’s data.
  • Assist with implementation of new software and systems, involving planning, programming, testing and implementing data conversion and data migration, as required.
  • Support the organization’s data governance program.
  • Consult effectively with others to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features and input and output requirements.
  • Represent goals and values of the organization.
  • Maintain strictest confidentiality.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Experience:


PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to solve complex problems using SQL programming language. Applicant ideally will be familiar with SQL Server Business Intelligence stack (SSRS, SSIS, SSAS, Power BI and SQL Server 2008/2012), or similar tools. Ability to write reports, develop dashboards, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Effectively present information. Work with team members to scope, design, test, document, and maintain various applications and related systems, as assigned. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. Ability to be on call regularly. Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.

EDUCATION: A bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Medical Informatics, Statistics, or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE: EPIC reporting experience. Experience working with Epic Cogito tools (Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, Dashboards, etc.).SQL Programming. Applicant must have one to two years technical and/or analytical experience working with a team.

PREFERED EXPERIENCE: Epic Certification in Cogito, Clarity, and/or Caboodle.SSIS, SSRS, MS SQL Server 2008/2012, dimensional modeling, data warehouse development, building ETL processes, Microsoft Excel, T-SQL, Visual Basic, and other advanced data/reporting tools. Python, or other data science programming languages, a plus.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Requires sitting for long periods of time. Some bending, stooping and stretching required. Working under stress and use of telephone required. Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds. Requires normal range of hearing and manual dexterity sufficient to operate computer keyboard, telephone, photocopier, calculator and other office equipment.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Normal office environment. Work may be stressful at times due to deadlines.
