What are the responsibilities and job description for the Farm Assistant position at Oregon State University?
This recruitment will be used to fill one part-time (a maximum of 20 hours per week during academic terms and up to 40 hours during summer break) Farm Assistant position for the Corvallis Farm Unit at Oregon State University (OSU).
This position will assist the farm manager through the late spring and summer with daily farming activities at the Botany and Plant Pathology Field Lab. The position will be responsible for mowing, irrigation, cultivation and assisting/supporting researcher success.
Position Duties
This position will assist the farm manager through the late spring and summer with daily farming activities at the Botany and Plant Pathology Field Lab. The position will be responsible for mowing, irrigation, cultivation and assisting/supporting researcher success.
- Use of tractor in mowing operations
- Brush removal, weed trimming and invasive plant removal using hand tools and small engine machinery
- Setting up of irrigation and support in watering schedules
- Small building projects and repairs
- Other duties as assigned

Additional Required Qualifications
- Currently enrolled as a student
- Ability to work outside in any inclement weather
- Able to lift and carrier 50lbs
- Able to work a minimum of 20 hours a week
- Can work independently and is self motivated
- Some experience using small tractors is preferred; but not required
- Some experience in related field is preferred; but not required
Looking for someone who is willing to commit to at least 15 hours a week who is interested in learning farming practices. It is important that the individual has limited obligation through the summer months due to the need of this individual needing to potentially cover for farm manager in irrigation needs
