This job posting will be used to fill up to nine part-time (a minimum of four hours per week and maximum of 20 hours per week) Peer Advisor positions for the Office of Student Success (OSS) in the College of Public Health and Human Sciences (CPHHS). The OSS provides support and services to CPHHS students in the following areas: academic advising, internships, study abroad, career development, graduate programs admissions, and accreditation and assessment.
Peer Advisors provide undergraduate and prospective students with information about available academic programs, the class registration process, college involvement opportunities, and other advising related topics. Advisors interact with undergraduate and prospective students in-person, via Zoom, by phone, and on a walk-in basis. Peer Advisors also act as CPHHS ambassadors to prospective OSU students, family members, and the OSU community, informing these groups about CPHHS academic programs and opportunities. This is accomplished at various events including but not limited to START orientations, small, PHHS specific campus tours, and larger recruitment events, including but not limited to Fall Preview and Beaver Open House.
The position also provides front office administrative support for the office, including answering calls, scheduling, and confirming advising appointments, and other projects as assigned.

40% – Front Desk Administration:

- Greet students and visitors in person and over the phone and explain services offered by the OSS.
- Check students in for appointments using Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Bookings.
- Answer phone calls and respond to questions or concerns.
- Create, maintain, or update office documents or spreadsheets using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Box, PowerPoint, and Publisher), the Google Suite, and OSS Shared Drive.
- Manage the CPHHS Peer Advisor email account and promptly respond to email correspondences.
30% – Peer Advising:
- Deliver information and knowledge on the different academic programs offered by the CPHHS (majors, options, minors, and certificates) to prospective and/or current students.
- Assist students with class registration, university/college forms and petitions, and various online tools such as MyOregonstate, MyDegrees, and Scheduler.
- Direct students to an appropriate campus resources.
- Review student resumes and/or cover letters and provide constructive feedback through individual appointments.
15% – Recruitment:
- Serve as a CPHHS representative at new student orientation programs (START) in the Summer, Winter and Spring terms, as well as other on or off-campus visitation programs (i.e. Fall Preview, Beaver Open House, Spring Preview, College Nights and High School visits).
- The OSS expects all peer advisors to help out with a few Summer START programs and welcomes participation in as many sessions as possible. Peers receive comprehensive and on-going training in order to lead 30-60 minute campus tours focused on PHHS buildings, programs, and resources.
- Peers are also expected to promote and attend University/CPHHS events (i.e. Fall Welcome Luncheon, Welcome Week events, Family Weekends, Research Seminars or Workshops, and Graduation Reception).
10% – Outreach:
- Assist with college outreach initiatives and events, including managing the OSS social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram) and the OSS Newsletter content and its weekly distribution through listservs.
- Reach out to prospective students who attend recruitment events or apply for admission to OSU and field questions or concerns to appropriate campus resources.
5% – Special Projects:
- Assist with special projects or other duties as assigned that support various initiatives in the OSS and in CPHHS at large.

Additional Required Qualifications
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong organization skills and attention to detail.
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
- Demonstrated examples of initiative, dependability, discipline, and/or creative problem-solving.
- Ability to work effectively with others in a team environment.
- Office or customer service experience, either in a business or academic environment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Box, PowerPoint, and Publisher).
- Availability to work part or full time during the summer term.
- Knowledge of CPHHS majors and academic regulations.
- Current full-time undergraduate students (enrolled in at least 12 credits/term) in the College of Public Health & Human Sciences.
- Students who have completed at least one term in the CPHHS with an OSU cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher.
- Effectively present and communicate to audiences of different sizes.
Orientation for this position takes place at the end of spring term 2022 and successful candidates are expected to participate. Every effort will be made to work around class schedules, but some night or weekend hours may be required.
During the academic year starting fall term, this position requires a minimum of four hours per week (but not to exceed 20 hours), Monday–Friday, 8am-6pm in a sometimes fast paced, sometimes quiet office environment. Peer Advisors will receive a set work schedule for each term. The peer advising supervisor(s) will plan the work schedule around the students’ academic schedule.
Peer Advisors will be asked to work some additional hours to help with OSU and CPHHS recruiting events during the academic year. Additional work will also be available during the summer up to full time for interested and available candidates.
