The Teacher is a highly qualified, state certified educator which is responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment partnership. Teacher provides instruction, support, and guidance, manages the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs. Teacher monitors student progress through K12’s learning management system. They actively work closely with students and parents/Learning Coaches to advance each student’s learning toward established goals. Teachers typically works from home but must travel occasionally throughout the year to various school functions, such as state testing or as otherwise required by the school.

The successful candidate will be issued a Temporary contract for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. Continued employment is a possibility for the 2022-2023 school year.

RULE TITLE: COVID-19 Vaccination Requirements for Teachers and School Staff


RULE SUMMARY: The intention of OAR 333-019-1030 is to help prevent and slow the spread of COVID-19 by requiring teachers, school staff, volunteers, and school-based program staff and volunteers who work in schools to be vaccinated against COVID-19 or request a medical or religious exception.

Effective, October 19, 2021 teachers, school staff, volunteers, and school-based program staff and volunteers must provide the school or school-based program with either:

  • Proof of vaccination showing they are fully vaccinated; or
  • Documentation of a medical or religious exception

The successful candidate will be asked to provide the documentation during the on-boarding process.

Essential Functions:

Instructional:

  • Takes ownership for students’ academic progress and attendance, communicating high
    expectations, and showing active interest in students’ achievement.
  • Conducts live synchronous whole group instruction and small group teaching, as needed.
  • Asynchronously supports objectives, including composing/sending emails, planning course
    objectives, preparing learning plans and using data to determine student needs.
  • Collaborates with local/regional/national teams and teacher trainers regarding instruction, resources, interventions, and data-driven decisions making.
  • Makes self-available to be coached on a regular basis with administrators and teacher trainers.
  • Under guidance from principal and coach, augments course content according to prescribed policies and procedures using appropriate asynchronous and synchronous tools.
  • Assess students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents, and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc. and maintaining a fair and consistent gradebook.
  • Makes placement and promotion decisions by generating formal and informal reports regardingstudent progress, alerts administrators to concerns about student performance and progress.
  • Ability to promote high levels of achievement in relation to individual student abilities.
  • Select teaching strategies emphasizing student involvement and engagement.
  • Participates on IEP and pre-referral teams for students with special needs.
  • Provides classroom accommodations and modifications as outlined in 504 plans or IEPs.
  • Plans differentiated instruction to support all levels of learners.

Communication and Relationship Building:

  • Communicate course goals and academic expectations to all stakeholders.
  • Responds to students, parents/Learning Coaches and colleagues in timely manner.
  • Works collaboratively with other teachers to ensure that all students are successfully progressing through the program, that parents have a central point of contact, and those tasks are distributed among the stakeholders.
  • Establishes and maintains positive rapport with families and regularly communicates with students and learning coaches/parents on an ongoing regular basis.
  • Conduct regular conferences with parents/responsible adults and students to assess each child’s progress, learning style, and any other academic, social or developmental issues.
  • Conduct regular conferencing sessions for students and/or teaching adults on academic topics of need or interest.
  • Organize service-learning opportunities that support student development.
  • Facilitates student clubs, monthly community and social events as needed.
  • The teacher actively participates in PLCs, required meetings, assessments, ORventures and other school outings to generate solutions to concerns and to support students, families, the school mission and vision.
  • Elementary and Middle School Teachers support learning coaches/parents with student curricular and instructional issues in a virtual classroom environment, in line with academy policies and procedures.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, seeking their support and advice, to create a cooperative relationship to support the student in the school.
  • Attend regular staff meetings and serve, as appropriate, on staff committees.
  • Represent the school and district at community, State, and professional meetings and conferences.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of communication with the Special Programs staff in regard to shared students and comply with accommodations and modifications of student plans.
  • Collaborate with Special Programs staff regarding development and planning of lessons to ensure scaffolding, including instructional strategies, for student learning styles and skills.
  • Supports students and learning coaches with the set-up and maintenance of their learning environment including basic computer troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates understanding of how both diverse and unique characteristics of students and their families impact required support.
  • Support ORVA administrators with school information sessions.

Supervisory Responsibilities: This position has no formal supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:
Minimum Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree AND
  • Six (6) months of student teaching experience AND
  • Meet requirements for Highly Qualified Teacher (HQT) in subject area under No Child Left Behind
    (NCLB)

Certificates and Licenses:
Appropriate state teaching certification.

Other Required Qualifications:

  • Pedagogical knowledge of content being taught and ability to apply critical thinking.
  • Knowledge of state content standards and ability to align those with the K12 curriculum.
  • Ability to embrace change and adapt to ensure excellent student outcomes.
  • Ability to problem solve independently and have a high level of organization.
  • Understanding of interdependency of deadlines on multiple projects and able to act to preserve integrity on other people's deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently, typically 40 hours per week.
  • Ability to maintain a professional home office without distraction during workday, as defined by the school.
  • Ability to travel as required (on average once per month and/or approximately 10% of the time) for face-to-face professional development, student testing, and as required by school.
  • Access to reliable high-speed internet.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word; PowerPoint, etc.
  • Ability to rapidly learn and adapt to new technologies and teaching platforms.
  • Ability to maintain teacher certification/professional development hours and fluency in K12 systems,
  • programs and curriculum.
  • Ability to clear required background check.


Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with proposed age group.
  • Experience working in a virtual environment and all the technology that is used in this setting.
  • Experience with Blackboard Collaborative, Newrow, or other online platforms.
