Position Description
Origis is seeking a Director – BESS Engineering to join our diverse and growing team. The ideal candidate, reporting to our Sr. Director of Project Engineering, will be Origis’ BESS Engineering SME working collaboratively with and providing technical expertise and guidance to the various EPC teams, i.e., Supply Chain, Technology, Development Engineering, Project Engineering, Project Management, and Construction, and leading and supporting BESS engineering activities across the project lifecycle.

Key Responsibilities
- Support the Technology and Supply Chain Teams during proposal evaluation and selection of BESS supplier and/or BESS integrator providing inputs to ensure selection of the best proposal from the engineering and implementation point of view.
- Support the Development Engineering Team during development of EPC RFP Design Engineering drawings set providing technical inputs to third party Design Engineer (DE) and ensuring during design review that design meets Origis specifications and standards, applicable local regulation, industry codes and technical standards, i.e., NFPA, UL, IEC, NERC, IEEE, ANSI, etc.
- Support the Project Engineering Team during development and review of EPC detail design packages (30%, 60%, 90%, IFC) ensuring that design meets Origis specifications & standards, applicable local regulation, industry codes and technical standards, and compliance with project’s PPA and LGIA.
- Support the Construction Team during commissioning, controls integration (i.e., EMS/PPC/Utility RTU) and final testing of the project.
- Refine and maintain Origis standards and specifications for installation of BESS systems in collaboration with the Engineering team with a focus on value-engineering to save costs and/or optimize projects BESS installation, implementation, and interconnection schedule.
- Maintain knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and best practices for BESS engineering, installation, and commissioning.
- Lead forward looking approaches evaluation for innovative BESS design, technology, and installation/cost considerations.
- Maintain relationships with external engineering consultants, BESS integrators, and Owner's Engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or a related technical field required.
- 8-12 years hands-on technical/engineering experience leading design and technical aspects, among others:
- BESS sizing,
- BESS architecture
- BESS BOS: Civil design, AC/DC & MV voltage design, site fire protection
- Degradation,
- Augmentation,
- transformers/backup power sizing,
- BESS SCADA and BESS EMS-PPC integration/communication/network interface and grid integration,
- Installation & commissioning of large utility-scale stand-alone and PV BESS projects during development, EPC engineering, and installation and commissioning project stages.
- Strong familiarity with BESS equipment vendors and integrators.
- Extensive knowledge of the NFPA, UL, IEC, NERC, IEEE, and ANSI standards related to BESS facilities.
- Solid understanding of regulatory standards in the US related to BESS within key jurisdictions such as CAISO, ERCOT, MISO, etc.
- Familiarity with performance testing requirements, Capacity Test, RTE, Charge Time, etc. as well as Utility mandated testing.
