What are the responsibilities and job description for the PILE DRIVER FOREMAN position at Orion Marine Group?
Orion Marine Group has an immediate opening for a Pile Driving Foreman, in Tampa and Titusville, Florida. This position is accountable for providing marine project support to Orion Marine Construction. Incumbents are responsible for supervising daily on-going operations on a work barge and ensuring that all work performed is done in a safe and efficient manner. Typically, this individual will work closely with the Project Superintendent, Project or Field Engineer, Field Safety Representative, Tug Captain, Pile Drivers, and other skilled or semi-skilled craft personnel on the work site. This position provides upward mobility to Superintendent for highly motivated candidates.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Works as assigned by the Project Superintendent to ensure the successful completion of current, on-going marine construction projects.
- Oversees the movement of marine floating rigs from location to location.
- Receives and handles material and equipment which may be required for the marine operation, and is involved in construction operations that involve:
Pile driving
Marine loading arms
Stevedoring
Miscellaneous dock repairs
- Ensures proper falsework is constructed, if required.
- Makes certain that proper permits are in hand prior to any activity and inspects equipment visually to ensure that it is operating properly.
- Ensures all Orion Marine Group Health, Safety & Environmental Policies are followed.
- Trains new workers in use of equipment and tools and analyzes and resolves work problems.
- Maintains time records for employees in the work crew and supervises and coordinates activities of employees in the work crew.
- Utilizes positive and negative pressure respirators and/or SCBA respiratory equipment as per customer, job and/or contract requirements.
- Demonstrates safety knowledge concerning chemical and/or process hazards associated associated with construction work. These include but are not limited to lockout/tagout, confined space, fall protection, respiratory protection, emergency action plan, CPR/First Aid procedures, and job and/or contract requirements
- Works closely with the General Foreman, Crane Operators, Helpers, and other skilled crafts persons to complete current projects in a safe and efficient manner.
- Participates in Health, Safety and Environmental initiatives that will contribute to compliance of State/Federal regulations and improve existing Company programs.

Position Requirements:
A minimum of five (5) years marine construction piling and concrete experience on work barges or jobsites or equivalent experience in a marine construction supervisory capacity is required. Incumbents must be well-versed in receiving and handling of equipment used for marine operations. In addition, incumbents must have knowledge of the integration of various crafts to successfully perform their work. Craft knowledge should include pile driving, crane operations, welding, carpentry, sandblasting, pipefitting and related areas. Incumbents should also possess previous supervisory experience and be certified in First Aid and CPR.
The incumbent must also 1) be well organized to effectively oversee all aspects of the project, 2) be able to hold Foreman and their crews accountable for safe work practices and work performance excellence, 3) have the foresight to avoid potential problems before they arise, 4) have a conscientious attitude towards controlling job costs and adhering to project schedules, 5) be able to influence and motivate Foreman and their work crews, and 6) possess excellent communication skills.

PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable workplace accommodation.
The individual must also be able to wear and properly utilize appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to work or visit within areas where it is required. This includes hard hat, safety glasses, respirators, ear plugs, steel toed shoes, personal flotation devices, or other protective equipment as required by the work performed and location the work is being done.
The incumbent must possess the ability to remain calm during emergencies and respond appropriately as dictated by the circumstance of the incident and as directed by the Safety Representative or other management personnel. Must be capable of evacuating the work area in a timely manner should an emergency situation arise.
In addition, the incumbent must also be capable of:
Walking, stepping, climbing or otherwise moving from one location on the job site to another, and normally involves physically getting onto and off of work barges, boats, vessels, or dock facilities of varying heights and access parameters
Adapting to extreme temperature changes
Adapting to outdoor conditions and prolonged exposure
