What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASC - Insurance Verification Specialist position at Orthopaedic Solutions Management?

Key Responsibilities:

Visual and auditory acuity adequate to allow for use of computer and other business office equipment.

  • Job activities constantly require verbal and written communication and ability to communicate by telephone.
  • Mental demands require routine judgment and response constantly and rapid and intermediate judgment occasionally.
  • Physical activities require sitting for protracted periods of time.
  • Requirement for body movements is not applicable other than routine desk activities.
  • Carrying, lifting, pulling and pushing activities are categorized as not applicable.
  • Limited access to Patient Medical Records.
  • Obtains authorization for services as required per patient’s insurance terms.
  • Notifies patient of any copay and/or deductible due prior to surgery.
  • Attends all mandatory meetings and in-services required by the facility.
  • Abides by the company ethics program.
  • Greets patients and their care persons arriving for appointments pleasantly and graciously, asking them to please sign in.
  • Completes registration accurately. Assures signatures are complete as necessary in the medical records, e.g., on the consent, insurance forms and release of information form.
  • Assist patient with admission packet.
  • Copies insurance cards as required.
  • Collects deductibles, fees and co-insurance payments before procedure is done. Enters information on financial log.
  • Reassures guests and sponsors.
  • Notifies the appropriate are of the patient’s arrival.
  • Notifies facility staff of any procedure discrepancies during the check-in process.
  • Notifies Nurse Manager of special messages from physician’s office (i.e., “will be late”).
  • Enters all patient information into the computer for utilization and post-operative surveys.
  • Is responsible for turning off coffee, copier, lights, etc., and locking the doors.

About You:

  • Candidate must be a high school graduate.
  • 2 or more years of experience in a healthcare environment.
  • Healthcare benefits experience helpful.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Able to multi-task and handle high call volumes.
  • Must have working knowledge of Windows based computer environment and typing skills.
  • High School Diploma required. Training courses in business office activities desirable.
