We are seeking a Systems Engineer to join the Orvis Team! This is a remote position.  Systems engineers leverage their detailed technical knowledge of one or more technology platforms and systems to create, maintain, and support, application and infrastructure systems and their related platform configurations and hardware specifications.  Systems Engineers work with application developers and solution architects to ensure that the system operating environment, configuration, and associated functional and technical integrations between systems are aligned with the technology strategy, optimized for performance and scalability, and adhere to company standards.  For more than 160 years the Orvis name has stood for outdoor traditions, quality, and customer satisfaction. We need to strive for perfection in our products and customer service, to propel our growth and the pride that will fuel our team.  Responsibilities:  Design, implement, enhance, support and troubleshoot Orvis technical solutions Support and resolve technical user problems with respect to system configurations and user access permissions Implement, maintain and support server platforms and related applications and technologies (i.e. Exchange, SQL, Active Directory, VMware, Backup/Recovery, SAN) Manage and monitor all installed systems and infrastructure; perform risk assessment for systems security vulnerabilities Install, configure, test, and maintain operating systems, application software, and system management tools Proactively ensure the highest levels of systems and infrastructure availability Identify remediation solutions when stakeholders require solutions that do not align with the technology strategy or company standards Collaborate with a variety of stakeholders (e.g., business partners, vendors, technology team colleagues) in the creation and maintenance of a system Analyze system and project costs to optimize the operational cost impacts of supporting one or more application systems Assess systems' operation stages to evaluate their efficiency based on performance, scalability, and usage Document engineering procedures and operations processes Ensure that Orvis operates at maximum efficiency for “end to end” processes Educate / train end users to become self-sufficient on technology where appropriate Interface with vendors to solve problems and present solutions to better Orvis’ use of technology Competencies and Requirements:   Degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering or equivalent Well-rounded working knowledge of various networking, hardware, software, peripherals, and electronic security.  Experience with: Microsoft Windows operating systems and server applications (AD, Group Policies, Exchange Online, Cylance)Server, desktop and laptop hardwareCisco UCS, Cisco networkingServer virtualization with VMWareDesktop managementVulnerability management and patching tools and technologiesBackup/recovery tools and technologiesVoice and data communicationSAN management and other related technologies Strong communication and interpersonal skills Ability to think strategically and act tactically Excellent judgment and decision-making skills Very strong organizational skills, timeline conscious Team player who can interact with many other departments and be willing to take the initiative to complete a project Proven experience building partnerships and cooperation across multiple departments Orvis Company associates take pride in our world-class service and products, treating customers, vendor partners, and each other with integrity and mutual respect.
