Laboratory Technician

GENERAL ACCOUNTABILITY

Reporting to the Manager, Quality Assurance, the Lab Technician II is responsible for physical and analytical characterization of Intermediates, Work in Process and Finished goods. The role also includes in-process testing for all plant codes to keep production moving.

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

The specific responsibilities of the Lab Tech II, while not limited to, include:

• Have full knowledge of safe operating procedures and practical working knowledge of laboratory practices in the functional area.
• Perform tests as specified in Control Manual and QC Records.
• Record and report results.
• Provide direction on adjustments to processes as indicated by test results.
• Perform calibration duties on instruments as required and report on results.
• Perform Safety inspections as required by site policies and directives.
• Perform other duties such as department representatives on 5S, Six Sigma, or other teams as necessary.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS / EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE

• Minimum requirement of two years of college Chemistry with some analytical chemistry experience
• 4 years of science degree (Biology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Physics) preferred
• Demonstrated communication skills, oral and written
• Proficient in MS Office
• Ability to problem-solve, organize, meet schedules and deadlines
• Excellent interpersonal skills, tact, and diplomacy
• Proven ability to work with sensitive and confidential information
• Familiarity with ISO 9001 and 14001
• Previous experience in the Paint or Coating industry is a definite asset
• Minimum 2 years of lab experience, preferred

Please note that it is a rotational night shift position (7pm - 7 am; three days ON, two days OFF, three days ON, three days OFF)
