What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director Behavioral Health position at Osborn Family Health Center?
POSITION SUMMARY: The Director of Behavioral Health collaborates with the leadership team in clarifying and implementing the vision, mission and goals of the departments and organization. He/she manages the social work and outreach associates within the multi-medical specialty departments. He/she oversees and manages project development, coordination, and monitoring of multiple community and health center-based projects. Community networking, fund raising for support programs, and creating marketing opportunities fall within the realm of day-to-day responsibilities. He/she advocates for the patient in the development and delivery of quality, cost effective patient care through social work interventions to improve individual and population health as it relates to the behavioral status of patients.
SPECIALIZED SKILLS: Understands implications of poverty, literacy levels, culture, and the impact on effective healthcare delivery of services. Leadership, advocacy, and negotiation skills are essential in ensuring that patient centered care is a priority. Ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple projects; lead and mentor others to accomplish projects; ability to think critically, develop workflow for programs and organize successful projects; demonstrates ability to function autonomously while able to collaborate with multiple organizational and community teams. Understands New Jersey social work guidelines and promotes the growth of behavioral health model within a medical model of care.
PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Management of Day-to-Day activities of Behavioral Health and Outreach Services
· Oversees management of social work services including consultations, workflow, scheduling, problem solving, and overall coordination of patient care within all medical specialties.
· Encourages collaborative professional relationships with providers, leaders, associates, and community partners.
· Assists supervisees in recognizing they are patient advocates in all direct communication with the patient, care team, and community partners.
· Reviews supervisee's medical documentation and mentors verbal and written communication accuracy and improvement.
· Thoroughly and accurately evaluates performance of staff over the past year and provides feedback throughout the year for performance improvement and goal achievement.
· Consistently maintains an effective service-oriented approach in working with health center staff and visitors
· Oversees all volunteer service activities both at Osborn and with community partners.
· Provides written reports, and or communication as directed by leadership in a timely and accurate manner.
· Research, reviews, and provides current patient community resources utilizing technology and resource guides that are culturally sensitive, language aligned, and appropriate to the literacy level of the population served.
· Mentors, and supervises social workers and social work interns in the provision of behavioral health services utilizing theoretical frameworks to guide assessment, intervention, and evaluation.
· Personally, strives and encourages staff to seek challenges and advancement in their fields through education and training.
· Practices and teaches personal reflection and self-correction to insure continual professional development and awareness of professional roles and boundaries.
Leads and facilitates partnerships with health networks, local, and state organizations.
· Acts as a role model for Osborn Family Health Center in all community affairs serving as an advocate for human rights and social and economic justice.
· Shows integrity and courage in addressing barriers and challenges in the provision of quality health care services.
· Awareness of predominant health and behavioral health factors that contribute to poor health outcomes while contributing to the improvement of health outcomes at the community, state, and national level.
· Maintains strong partnerships with community, state, and national coalitions around targeted health concerns impacting the community and target population.
· Collaborates with community partners in the planning and delivery of health education opportunities to provide events such as health fairs, support groups, and focus groups.
· Supervises social work interns in partnership with Schools of Social Work to provide educational training for future professionals while allowing additional benefits of counseling and service to patients.
Leads. Develops, and sustains financially innovative patient centered service programs and events
· Targets literacy as a goal to improve pediatric patient school performance and seeks to raise the literacy level of target population.
· Coordinates multiple service programs that support and assist patients with problems outside of the medical model such as food, clothing, holiday programs, and transportation.
· Works to create funding streams and products useful for patients, the health care center, and the community. Promotes, manages, and reports regularly on such activities.
· Takes a lead role in creating new projects that are patient-centered and assists in improving the health and quality of life of target population.
· Seeks and responds to grant and funding opportunities as they arise to assist in the development of innovative programs that are relevant to improving the health status of the community.
Assists leadership in activities in accordance with Health Center policies and procedures.
· Contributes to the development, maintenance and administration of up-to-date health center policies and procedures.
· Is knowledgeable of and consistently enforces all Health Center policies and procedures.
· Ensures compliance with external regulatory bodies and other review and standard boards.
· Participates as a leader in prioritizing performance improvement activities and quality monitoring projects both inside the organization and outside in closing gaps in care.
· Engages associates in building a strong workforce culture based on commitment to Standards of Excellence and commitment to the Health Center by maintaining the highest standards of behavior, demonstrating honest, fair, and ethical conduct.
· Models a professional image that supports staff growth and the development of strong clinicians and leaders within the profession.
· Promptly and accurately responds to any type of patient inquiry and uses problem solving strategies for patient satisfaction.
· Cultivates positive relationships with all patients, customers, guests, members of the care team and well as Osborn Board members.

· Recognizes and manages personal values guided by National Association of Social Work code of ethics to apply strategies of ethical reasoning in resolving problems.
· Provide leadership in promoting sustainable changes in service delivery and practice to improve the quality of social services and health center services.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Education and License Requirements
· Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of New Jersey
· Master’s in social work
· Certified as LCSW Supervisor in the State of New Jersey Preferred
Experience
· Ability to use applicable electronic systems and applications
· Five years social work supervisory clinical experience preferred
· Minimum of five years' experience in health care setting
· Leadership experience preferred with emphasis on community development activities
· Grant writing or publication history preferred
