Job Posting for Scientist I/II, Analytical Chemistry at Osmo
Osmo is seeking a Scientist/Scientist II to join our expanding Analytical Chemistry team. You will play a crucial role in supporting all Osmo’s pipelines from AI and compound discovery to perfumery. You are a good communicator, detail oriented and hands-on expert on analytical chemistry techniques for volatile compounds. You will design and execute method development and validation for small molecules. You will contribute to cutting edge research for digital olfaction and work closely with AI, Data Operations, Perfumery and Synthetic Chemistry teams.
What you will be doing:
Be responsible for a well-maintained and highly functioning lab; troubleshoot and do simple repairs on instruments
Design and execute all types of analytical method development for both targeted and untargeted analysis (absolute quantitation, characterization of unknowns and structure elucidation, identification of odor-active compounds)
Develop Standard Operating Procedure for characterization of impurity profile of captives and establish criteria for quality control
Develop Standard Operating Procedure for shelf-life stability studies of compounds in diverse applications (body care, laundry, perfumery…)
Set up and sustain automated high throughput data collection for machine learning
What we need to see:
Graduate degree in analytical chemistry, flavor/fragrance chemistry, food science, environmental sciences (PhD preferred) with postdoc and/or industry experience in related fields
Hands-on expertise with isolation, separation and detection techniques of small molecules: DHS, Purge-and-Trap, SPME, SAFE, Liquid & Gas Chromatography (HPLC/UPLC, GC, GCxGC), Mass Spectrometry (Q, QqQ, Q-Tof, Orbitrap) & Olfactometry
Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and repair GC/MS and robotics samplers
Experience in conducting omics studies, from sample selection to statistical data treatment
Ability to communicate with a variety of experts and translate their analytical needs into action plan for the team
Knowledge of flavor and fragrance chemistry of small molecules
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently
Ability to work on-site 5 days a week in NYC
Ways to stand out from the crowd:
Demonstrated ability to take existing and well established analytical methods and adapt them to unconventional applications
Have fundamental understanding of both, analytical chemistry applied to the characterization of volatile compounds and, of psychophysics concepts of odor perception; and ability to correlate chemical and sensory data using multivariate statistical analysis
Hands-on experience on Gerstel robotics, injectors and Agilent capillary flow technology devices
